From the article, his hand is in a cast. Wonder if was playing with a broken hand or had to have surgery after the season? Either way, that makes the last few games that much more impressive. "He will return to Vermillion in a few weeks to begin training, despite his right thumb currently being in a cast from an injury suffered late in the regular season. The thumb will require a few more weeks of rest before he begins throwing." Streveler made a few throws against SDSU that looked really ugly so I though something was wrong with his hand but if you look at his stats, they weren't any worse at the end of the season then the beginning of the season. It is impressive that he could complete about 66% of his passes (69% against SDSU) if he had a broken hand. When I read about a hand in a cast, I was hoping that you were talking about Christian. He had 8 or 9 turnovers in the semifinal game. Twice he just dropped the ball. It's too bad this wasn't last year when Lujan was still with the team because we was arguably the better passer. Either the coaches thought there wasn't anybody else or something???

If that truly is the case that he played 3 games with a broken hand, one of which he set an FCS record for total offense, that has to go down as one of the toughest accomplishments we have ever seen. No wonder he is such a leader and loved by his coaches and teammates. If he doesn't win the Payton award something is terribly wrong.

Does anyone know whether Pro-Day is open to the public? Would love to go watch the players put on a show for NFL scouts. If anyone has any knowledge about how Pro-Day works, let me know.

Mick just said on his Argus chat that USD had the offer to fly Strev down to Texas for the ceremony, but he declined and deceided to drive down with some teammates.

You gotta think Streveler has a good shot, with Briscoe winning it last year, and Wide Receivers only winning it twice in the award's 31-year history.
Unfortunately, there is a precedent for a QB winning it twice. Armanti Edwards, App State. Won it in the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

Chris did not win the Walter Payton award, but will always be our MVP.

Congratulations to Jeremiah Briscoe on winning the award. To win two years in a row is a great achievement!
A reminder to everyone that the vote is taken before the playoffs. So this was before Chris set FCS playoff records in the Sam Houston State game and all the while after playing the last few games with a severely injured thumb on his throwing hand. Had the vote been taken after this game and with the knowledge of his injury I believe he would have won in a landslide for his ability under extremely difficult circumstances, his courage and his leadership!
Thanks again Chris for all the great achievements and memories and the very best wishes in all your future endeavors!!!

I wonder what kind of numbers Briscoe would have had in the MVFC and what kind of numbers Streveler would have in the Southland or whatever conference that is. Chris would still be throwing touchdown passes. Based on the level of competition the wrong player won and that was also true when Wes was up for the Harlon Hill in D2. Playing in a tough conference hurts.
If you would ask any coach around the nation who they would be most worried about to game plan for I think we all know the answer to that.
