I'm very disappointed that Chris didn't win the award, as anyone could see he was incredibly deserving, but it's hard to beat out someone who, also deservedly, had the preseason rep and accolades. Briscoe was outstanding too and I'm not going to get on here and bash him and I hope no one else does either. That would be extremely low class and I would bet it would upset our favorite QB. I enjoyed every minute that I got to watch Chris Streveler play and thanks for representing yourself, your team and USD so well these past two years. You've established the Coyotes as a team to be reckoned with and given future teams something great to build on.

Best offensive season in the history of the best conference in the FCS. I hope everyone appreciated just how special Streveler was.

Congrats Briscoe, and Streveler! Hopefully we see these two warriors at The next level!

If the votes were tallied later I believe there would be a different outcome. A couple of Streveler's best games came after the voting was completed. Plus, very few people were aware of the thumb injury he was playing with.

I'm with all of you that I thought Chris deserved it. But I'm not sure we realize how difficult actually winning it was going to be. Many of the voters (ones that don't cover MVFC) didn't really know who he was until week 4 or 5. Then when some of them started paying attention, USD lost some games and Chris was playing hurt - but no one would say publicly he was hurt. Did I see a tweet where almost half of the voters didn't have him in the Top 5?
On the flip side SDSU's QB - who did not have a great season even by his own standards - had 45 voters put him in the top 5. No doubt that was largely based on name recognition/preseason hype for the non-MVFC voters.
Chris went from not being a preseason all-conference pick to 2nd the Walter Payton (which, like the Heisman, requires hype and name recognition) while playing in the toughest defensive conference in the country. Though I think he was robbed, that is a pretty amazing accomplishment.

The MVFC can only blame themselves for losing both the Walter Payton award and the Buck Buchanan awards. If you look at the votes, there are players from both lists that play in the MVFC you know would not win but there SID or local media voted for them to toe the company line. While the Ohio Valley didn't have that problem, they voted for the best chance in the conference. I'm not taking anything away from anybody but I truly believe Streevler and Taylor should have won those awards, but unfortunately we couldn't get past voting for our own. Shame on the MVFC.

I learned tonight that Streveler took a job at the Vermillion Liquor Store. I questioned if it was him, because the beard was trimmed to a reasonable length. I asked anyways. "Are you Chris Streveler? Why did you trim your beard?" He said he couldn't keep walking around with that thing. He would go on to complement my own beard, and suggested I could grow a gnarly one of my own, but I have no interest on following through on something like that.
Instead, while my card was scanning, I changed the subject to football. I asked if he intended on pursuing football further (yes, pro day is March 30), and also what happened to his hand this season. Chris said he had a fracture and torn ligament in his throwing hand against SDSU, Nichols, and SHSU. He went 85/130 with 11 TDs in the air in those games.
What a legend.

Chris is on the Winnipeg Blue Bomber (CFL) 10 player negotiation list. This means they have exclusive CFL rights to negotiate with him or trade those rights to another CFL team. The lists are designed to create fan interest in upcoming pro days and tryouts. Hopefully this is just one of many opportunities Chris will have to keep playing football!!

Interesting fact: Of all FBS & FCS QBs in 2017-18 Chris was ranked 3rd in total offense with 373 yds/game (including the two playoff games). If you don't count the 2nd half of the Drake game he didn't play and basically the full Southern Ill game when he was injured his average would be 422 yds/game which would move him to number one!!
