It's extremly racist. I suppose its fun sometimes to poke fun at ones self, but if that is funny I can think of some funny things too. Best to keep a sense of humor I guess. Thats what I intend to do.
BBQ evolved to make the inexpensive poor cuts of meat edible. It took a lot of cooking and sauce to do that. More expensive cuts that cook quickly along with burgers, steaks and chops are grilled. The Grill Master at Hog in the Road BBQ's shoulder, brisket and ribs in his pit with selected woods. He grills his seafood and fillets, also with selected woods.
He is a nice fellow. I talked with him once. He took time to explain BBQ a little bit. I wont disclose his race or nationality.

Racist? Joking about all people from Minnesota being Of Swedish ancestry and eating lutefisk is a false ethnic stereotype, but it certainly isn't racist. Most Minnesotans are not deeply offended by this stereotype. You have to see the irony in a part-Norwegian-South Dakotan calling a Minnesotan a lutefisk-eating Swede, right?
I trust your opinion that the 'cue at that restaurant is amazing, and the pit master is very talented. Just having a little fun.
Take a step back and re-read this whole conversation. It started with recommendations about which BBQ place in KC has the best food. You make the claim that this Minnesota place is better than any in KC..... seriously you don't see the hubris? If you somehow have eaten at all of the restaurants in KC that were mentioned, then I retract my comments. If not, you kind-of sound like a one-upper.
Make all the excuses you care to make but the “humor” offered was a direct mocking of a white, Scandinavian heritage based on the assumption a Scandinavian can neither enjoy or cook BBQ. You have no idea who cooks the BBQ there or even who eats it. it may be someone racially or with a cultural heritage you think is more attuned to BBQ. Who knows but if I say BBQ in KC is too black to be enjoyed some of you will go ape. I can assure you BBQ is not too white in Grove City to be enjoyed but some of you went ape anyway wallowing in racial, ethnic or cultural stereotypes.
None of us has eaten at every BBQ restaurant in KC and none of you have ever been to the Hog in the Road. I never watch NPR propaganda. The muppets offer no harbor from the critical eye of racism that falls on us all in their mockery of white culture. As a white man I should not be expected to bear those offenses any more than a black man or red man should endure racially insensitive comments.
I believe the poster went off the rails with the insensitive comment in the first place because most feel the K State game is a typical body bag game and they may be right. If you can’t walk on the field expecting a win and are washed out by the Wildcats the remainder of the season will end in mediocrity. This is a game this team should have been keying on for some time. NDSU has been building for The Ducks for several years. They are doing this through their game plans and the recruits they seek out. I’ll be at that game, God willing, and I won’t try their BBQ. I will visit their dispensaries though for some legal bud.
The BBQ in KC or Manhattan is no better than their football. I watched The Bison dismantle those clowns and I know how good the BBQ is at the Hog. A lot of them acted about their football like some of you are acting about the BBQ. They made a lot of stereotypical assumptions while poking fun about Bison football just as some of you are about Mn BBQ. They knew a lot more about our “BBQ” after the game just as you will after visiting the Hog.
As far as the party goes in that town? You will start having fun when you take the long walk back to your lot with a win. I have never enjoyed a post game atmosphere like that one. Didn’t eat a lick if their BBQ either. Pre game I had a cheeseburger fries and a pitcher of beer as I listened to them brag up their team and wish the Bison well. They hoped the Bison didn’t suffer too many injuries. The heat you know. They couldn’t possibly be conditioned to stand the heat.

I guess I'll suggest you keep your head in the sand whenever you come back to Minnesota because they are all delighted to be caricatures of their culture. I blame that damn NPR propaganda, don't cha know?!

I won't follow you further down your rabbit-hole on perceived racism in the interests of sanity. I will, however, comment on your BBQ bias: Based on your comments, you assume all the BBQ in KC to be inferior to this Minnesota restaurant, even without having tried any of the handful of exceptional restaurants recommended by those that have. That is complete Hogwash. It's the equivalent of a child insisting they hate a food they have never tried.
I haven't tried any of it, so I won't suggest I know anything about the subject. El Coyote and I were just being facetious, adding some lutefisk humor to the subject for no relevant reason.
Sportschic was initially skeptical about the Minnesota 'cue, but then stated that she would have to try some based on your recommendation. Which is a sane, reasonable response. Unlike yours.
I'm sure the 'cue at the Minnesota restaurant is fine, but let's be real for a second, there are four major recognized barbeque styles and Minnesota style isn't one of them, but Kansas City style is.
Carolina Memphis Kansas City Texas
University of South Dakota, Sitting Bull Trophy winners: 1956, 59, 68, 71, 74, 76, 78, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 89, 95...Retired...2005, 10, 17, 21, 23, 24
I’m sure there are variations everywhere. Much like Hecks BBQ in Vermillion has their own style.
I listened to the FCS opening drive podcast today about MVFC. Worth a listen. They think USD defense will be top 3 in conference. Interesting hot take among others.
