I just did some website snooping and I would hope we can beat North Texas at home. Doesn't seem to be much size among their main scorers except for one big post player they shoot and a lot of three point bombs. One at a time.

Inspiring to read that 12 teams being investigated by the FBI got invites to the NCAA Tournament. I wonder if the shit is going to hit the fan after the tourney is over? When is the NIT announced or where can a person find it? Exactly why the NCAA wouldn't do squat to these teams prior to the tournament. They could care less what happens after the tourney, or even if wins will have to be vacated... they want their payday now. You kick those teams out now, you loose a HUGE audience. And then there is the lawsuits if they are found not guilty of wrong doing - even though they are doing it. The NCAA is banking on all this being long forgotten by next year, even if they drop the hammer. It's all about the $$$. They are so freaking corrupt. Also why conferences like the ACC got 9 teams in and not one mid-major at-large bid. The Yotes had a better record and RPI than 4 of the teams in the NIT. Sorry for the diatribe, but I'm a little miffed. Here's hoping the bunnies buy into all this hype about actually being able to beat Ohio State... yeah right.

Here are the mid-major teams with the highest KenPom rankings, That weren't in the NCAA:
#28 Saint Mary's (WCC) ---- NIT 1-seed (at-large) #67 USD------- (Summit) CBI #70 BYU----------(WCC) ---- NIT 6-seed (at-large) #72 Vermont-----(America E)NIT 6-seed (Auto-Qual) #83 Belmont-----(OVC)------ Turned down CBI & CIT #91 Utah Valley--(WAC)----- CBI #92 E Tenn State-(Southern) ? #93 Furman-------(Southern) ? #95 Northern KY--(Horizon)-- NIT 7-seed (Auto-Qual) #97 Northeastern-(Colonial)- ? #108 N Colorado--(Big Sky)- CIT #112 Grand Can--(WAC)---- CBI
I wouldn't say we were screwed out of the NIT, but it was a tough year for mid-majors, because there were 12 Automatic-qualifiers that won their regular season and lost in the conference tournament (and weren't NCAA at-large teams). Those were all mid-majors that are ranked lower than South Dakota.
Power conferences and High-majors filled up 18 of the 20 other slots, and really only a couple of those P-5 teams were ranked lower than USD in KenPom. (Oregon and Boston College).
I have to believe that we were one of the first 4 out of the NIT. Just a bad set of circumstances.

Wonder what kind of crowd we can get there for Wednesday night. Who does it look like should be the stiffest competition? Here are the 16 teams with an average ranking (RPI, KenPom, Sagarin, Massey) 83 USD (Summit) 26-896 Utah Valley (WAC) 22-10 123 Grand Canyon (WAC) 22-11128 E Washington (Big Sky) 20-14 137 San Francisco (WCC) 18-15 138 Canisius (MAAC) 21-11 149 Jacksonville St (OVC) 21-12 159 Mercer (Southern) 18-14180 Seattle (WAC) 20-13 194 Miami OH (MAC) 16-17 200 Colgate (Patriot) 19-13 209 N Texas (CUSA) 15-17214 C Arkansas (Southlnd) 17-16 247 UTRGV (WAC) 15-17 250 Campbell (Big South) 16-15 258 New Orleans (Southlnd) 15-16 I'll guess that we won't have much trouble with North Texas at home. Grand Canyon may be a bit of a handful in the second round, but if we get by them... The Semifinals are re-seeded, and there is a good chance we play a team from the "bad" group (Miami OH, UTRGV, Campbell, New Orleans). The Final should likely be one of the teams from the "good" group of (Utah Valley, E Wash, San Fran)

I guess hosting in the CBI and CIT involve a "hosting fee" that would be offset with ticket/concessions sales. It used to be 50K for the CBI, 75K for semifinals and finals. I read that a couple of years ago the early round fee was lowered to 40K.
This is higher than the CIT. at 30K/game.
I'm sure the athletic department loses money on this, but sees it as a net positive.

Ft Wayne is now playing in the first CIT game of the post-season (first of any tournament!). CBSSN. Massey predicted a Ft Wayne win 83-78. www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/scoreboard/CIT/They are losing 78-81 to Central Michigan with 5 min left in the game... ... now they are winning 83-81 with 4:30... ... now losing 84-85 with 2:30 left... ... now tied 86-86 with 1:50 left... ... now 89-90 with 1:15.... ...89-90 with 0:29... ...89-90 with 0:04... ...89-92 with 0:03.6... ...89-92 with 0:01.3... ...89-94 final

I didn't really have any hopes of our women getting in, but I must say when SDSU got an 8 I started thinking that maybe the conference champs who beat them twice could get an 11-12. No such luck. If I was state I think I rather be an 11 or 12. You have a better chance at a sweet 16 or further. It's tough to get a 1 seed in the second round. The 1s are usually pretty dominant in women's basketball.

The 1s are usually pretty dominant in women's basketball. I felt the same. But once I saw Nebraska getting in (with a lower RPI than USD's) I knew that would have been our at-large spot if we did. Too bad, this team deserves it. There are a good amount of at-large teams in that we know USD could beat. We also know that USD can beat one of the 8 seeds in the tourney 2/3 times Nonetheless, good luck to the Jacks. A deep WNIT run would still be fun, though I am sure we don't want to be known as a WNIT powerhouse. Nothing we can do about it at this point but to enjoy the ride as best we can.

I know this was two years ago but all but one team that the Coyotes beat in their WNIT Championship run made the tourney.
Drake (or was it Creighton but doesn't matter as they both made it) Minnesota Western Kentucky Oregon Florida Gulf Coast
Only team that didn't make it was Northern Iowa. The Coyotes beat Creighton this year who made it when they weren't really even on the top of their game. There is no question that the Coyotes were worthy and what other team has to face the kind of a challenge that the Coyotes do in their conference tourney. I do agree that if the Jacks are considered an 8 seed than the Coyotes should have been an at large at a 9 or 10 seed IMO.

Goes back to what I was once told by an extremely reliable source, "The committee looks for reasons to keep mid majors out and looks for reasons to put the P5s in". Weird, but I think the State women got a worse draw than the men even with the higher seed.

We don’t want to become a WNIT powerhouse but most of the gals on this team were not with the team when we won it. Jasmine and Kate saw the most action so playing in more games can only help them.

I'm happy for the Jacks getting that seed, but there are three reasons they drew that 8-seed:
1. RPI 2. RPI 3. RPI
The committee doesn't even look at any other metrics. It is 12 different ways to dissect the RPI. The sooner we recognize that the better. Strength of Schedule is 75% of the RPI, and the RPI is 100% of selection criteria.
