It was interesting to hear Coach Nielson speak at media day on the subject of the new NCAA Red Shirt rule and how coaches might utilize the 4 games of eligibility every true freshman now has before they lose their Red Shirt. I am interested to hear how everyone feels these games should be used? I could see where a coach might want to get some young kids in some early non-conference games that might not be as competitive to see what they might have, but I also understand why a coach might want to hold those games in their pocket to protect against any injuries. This might be one of the biggest changes to the game in years and it will be fun to see how different coaches across the NCAA take advantage of these free games including how the Yotes use these games. |

Imho... it's just the NCAA growing the brand. However, is it good or bad for the boys??? Again, imho... it helps the boys out so I'm good with it!

I'm interested in tracking exactly how many games our true freshmen are playing this year. I'll try to keep the running total here.
Week 1:

FWIW, Morrison was at USD last year. He may have been a gray shirt. But he is not a “true” freshman.

His bio does say he is a class of 2017 recruit. He's listed as a true freshman and wasn't on last year's roster though.

Yup, I get it. Much like Joe Kordus a year ago played as a “true” freshman in the program, but had spent a year after HS graduation at a prep school so he was a year older.

This list is identical to last week. It seems safe to say none of these guys will be redshirting (except Morrison, I hope). Maybe we'll see some new faces if we blow out Missouri State.

According to box score. Andy McCance played game 3.
Isaac Erbes played at RG and used a game. Be interesting to see if he moves into a starting role.
