Greenfield would move to the outside in a stand up position. Teams would have to acknowledge where he is on the field and adjust to it. Then if he drops, they would have to slide protection to find out where the other rushers would be coming from and pick it up.

Wishing Moose and Bradley the very best in their future endeavors. They're good people and will be successful wherever they end up. We know that Greenfield and Kramer can rush and set an edge. The question in the 3-4 will be whether or not they can cover a man out of the backfield, cover a TE, cover an outside hook zone or flat, or cover a man in space with help over the top. All depends on formation and scheme. Both are great athletes, but it takes that perfect mixture to be able play on your feet in space, and/or play with your hand on the ground. Answers coming this spring.

It will be interesting to see how big of an impact the combination of the coaches changes and graduation of a highly successful and large in numbers senior class, has on the program. Certainly they have a lot of talent there, but the impact of coaching cannot be overlooked. Should they lose 3 or 4 games next year how will their fan base react?

I personally think the loss of the OL coach is a bigger loss than there ever going to admit.

Exciting hire. When I first saw that we hired the DC from Grandview, I have to admit I was a little underwhelmed. But after doing a little research and then reading this article that you posted, I have to say that I am kind of excited to see where this thing goes. Sounds like he is an attacker. Blitzers from everywhere, simple but multiple schemes. I think this could be a home run hire. We'll definitely have an interesting spring with a QB battle and a new defense being installed.

Nice article! It's from this year, back in November. This guy does things VERY differently. Here's the most informative couple of paragraphs: At Grand View, Johansen’s approach is rooted in simplicity. He uses a micro playbook, about two pages long, that changes each week. Instead of forcing his entire working theory upon his defense, he arms players with only a few fundamental techniques that they’ll need for the upcoming game—simple maneuvers they’ll rep over and over during practice. [...] Keeping things simple allows the defense to stay flexible. Against RPO-based teams, for example, his defense may appear in what looks like a dime front (six defensive backs) when, in reality, it’s a balanced run D that swaps out slot corners for safeties who can assist against the ground game, like smaller linebackers. In other words: “position-less football,” says Johansen, who pulls up one concept, circles his safety and notes, “he’s anything from a defensive end to playing Cover-0 in the slot.”
Those linebackers and defensive backs whom offenses are trying to manipulate with RPOs? Johansen teaches each one to treat the receiver in front of him like a sparring partner in a boxing ring. And he structures his defense, at times, with just three down linemen, each with the responsibility of widening the tackle box to prevent breakaway runs. Johansen is, in his words, “reinventing the defense” every week.

Chad Greenway stating on Mlps sports radio show this morning that Abdul Hodge (former LB at Iowa, and NFL player drafted by the Packers, played for Bengals and Panthers as well) is our new LB coach.
