If they can, I hope they find some immediate OL help from grad transfer/FBS->FCS/juco ranks over the summer.

This is not what he was saying in the locker room or the message he communicated to the OL players upon his departure... It was absolutely an issue with the current OL coach. We may have a bigger issue here as our OL situation is not looking good. We have zero depth, key players leaving the team and an extremely young OL going into the season. Last year one of our areas of strength was supposed to be the OL and how did that work out for us? Watching the Spring practices, it was apparent to me that our OL cannot stop a pass rush so the play calling was for quick hitting passes that protected the QB from getting mauled, mixed in with a little play action runs to attempt to keep the D off guard. How long is this going to work against the other teams on our schedule? If that's the case, and I'm not doubting what you say, it was in everybody's best interest that he move on and that's really a shame because he was a very talented player. If this was one of the internal dramas that was going on last year it's no wonder we had problems. Sometimes there can be addition by subtraction. I think everyone has concerns about the offensive line next season as it could hold the key to the success of the season, but the fact that three probable starters were out made for a thin corps this spring. And while I like the talent, it is young and what will be the depth is even younger. They'll need to grow up quickly. He was not an "Internal drama" last season and the coach was not his only reason, but he was not the only player to leave on the OL, that did not like the position coach.

I realize that have been others, Chisolm for one, and I find this disheartening. But yoteolfan stated that he was making comments in the locker room and communicating his displeasure to teammates on the offensive line. This isn't productive or good for morale. I also heard reference to this as far back as last summer. I also heard that he was having back issues which would be a good reason to call it a career. It's not wise to mess with back issues. The ones I heard these from couldn't be more reliable.

For clarification - I did not say that he was making comments in the locker room last year. When he quit this Spring, that is when he told the players that a big reason was the OL coach and that he didn't want to play for him any longer. My understanding was that he was not a distraction during the season but was very clear when he left, why he was leaving. Also of note, Gilray, #63 has also left the team due to no longer wanting to play for the OL coach. With the departure of these 2 OL this Spring, USD just lost 2 of their 5 strongest OL on the team. Not a good trend!

For my clarification, I heard there was tension with some of the OL last summer, not that any player/players were badmouthing anyone in the locker room last summer, and you are correct, it's not a good trend and definitely concerning.

It is a concern. The running game held the team back last year. Without improvement this season may look a lot like last season

I know that this distresses some members when someone points out something about the coaching staff, but let's not stick our heads in the sand. If the OL does not improve this year - dramatically - this OL coach need to go. I understand that he has been with our Head Coach for a long time, but that is not a good reason to allow a coach that clearly is in over his head, to keep his position. The OL has gone backwards since he took over and this year we will have no depth except incoming freshmen! We actually moved 2 TE's to OL in the Spring to have enough depth to practice and they played left tackle - in a passing offense!

I kind of agree with the poster. We're not going to be successful in the MVFC if we don't have a solid O-line. That said, the position maneuverings and lack of depth are a serious cause for concern going into the season. I am cautiously optimistic but am gravely concerned.

At some point in time ultimate responsibility rests with the head coach as well.

The ol adage ...” a football team is only as good as their line”! Let’s pray that we are in a better position than it seems🙏🏼 I didn’t realize they converted tight ends in to lineman😳 Was it just for spring or a permanent change? Does anyone know? What tight ends did we have that are possibly big enough to play O-line??
