UNC normally beats USD, so I am going on past history. USD is 2-0 this decade. One win as a transitioning D2 team, another last year in a very down season. Whatever history you're referring to is irrelevant. I believe UNC beat USD the last time the 'Yotes were in Greeley. I think the Bears win at home. What do you have coming back? Strengths and weaknesses? Who is your starting thrower?

I believe UNC beat USD the last time the 'Yotes were in Greeley. I think the Bears win at home. What do you have coming back? Strengths and weaknesses? Who is your starting thrower? I don’t think there’s a for sure win or loss on our schedule with the exception of Oklahoma. We will quickly learn what our potential is with game 1 against Montana. This is a good Montana team, but not great. They are upper half of your league in my opinion. Last year you played us hard in Vermillion but talent gave way eventually. I kinda think that’s how it will play out this year. The better team will establish themselves by mid to late 3rd quarter. One concern any team has from non elevated sites is how elevation affects the players. Both physically and mentally. As been posted by many, the key to our season lies in the offensive line play. Last year was not good so it’s everyones hope on this board that play will be better. If they are, and that’s a big if, then I see the Coyotes coming out of the non-conference schedule 3-1. That would include a win over UNC in Greeley. If we are 3-1 then I think we go 5-3 or 4-4 in the league. An 8-4 season would be a good record and we’d be on our way building the foundation. You can build an argument that we can beat every school in the league with possible exception being ndsu. I can also build an argument every team we play can beat us. While everyone points to last years downfall on O line play, I think it had more to do with senior leadership. We had none. Zero. Nada. You don’t win without leadership. Our QB is Austin Simmons and simply put, he’s as good a passer as you can hope for at this level. Doesn’t have Strevs speed but has a better arm. Longer. No worries on my end on QB play. The running game ( dictated by O line play ) is the key to our success. End of discussion. We run effectively, we’ll win. If we don’t, we’ll lose. In the Dome, fans will be treated to the ball being aired out all over the joint. Not only do we have a darned good QB, we have an arsenal of receivers that are very very good and fast. Playing outside in the elements is going to be our defining moment. Again, if we can run the ball with any consistency whatsoever, we’ll be fine. You’ll need to do that on windy days outside. Our defense is unknown. My gut hunch is well be pretty decent...not great. I could see a “bend but not break” defense this year. I think we’re good enough to keep us in games. Our new DC has a great reputation for building defenses around personal. For me the bottom line is leadership. Do we have the guys that will step up and lead? I’m hopeful. USD 34 UNC 21

USD 34 UNC 21 I do remember your QB is pretty good. If UNC's QB Jacob Knipp can stay healthy up until that game it should be a good QB battle in Greeley. The problem is keeping him healthy. Our weakness seems to be the same as yours; a weak offensive line. We were probably the worst in the entire FCS. I believe at one point we lead the league in sacks given up. We do have a new offensive coordinator and he is bringing in an entirely new spread offense (not my favorite. I like the smash football NDSU plays). Defense should be decent. I'll pick the Bears 21, 'Yotes 14.

Coyote Football Alumni,
Summer is going fast and in one month, official practice will be starting. Summer training is going well with over 100 of our guys on campus working out in the weight room. August 2nd is our first day of official practice and our players will get a short break in late July before the start of fall camp.
Our 2020 recruiting is off to a great start and we had nearly 250 underclassmen on campus for camps in June and will have another 400 to 500 on campus in July. Our staff will be taking a few well deserved days off in early July and then we get back to the office for camps and to put final touches on our preparation for the 2019 season.
Our 2019 schedule is a great one starting off with the University of Montana at home on August 31st. Following our first-ever trip to Oklahoma the next week, we return home against Houston Baptist on September 14th. Our annual D-Days game will feature a Missouri Valley contest against Indiana State on October 5th and we will close the regular season at home against “State” on November 23rd. We will also be recognizing the 2005 Coyote football team that won the NCC championship on October 26th during our game with Southern Illinois. More information on that reunion event will be coming.
The DakotaDome renovation project has been in full swing now for several months and you can begin to see how the west side will look when completed. With limited seating for this fall, season ticket sales are approaching a record level so get your tickets now for 2019. We anticipate being able to access the Dome for practice beginning in mid-August until then we will be practicing on our new outdoor complex. Check out the Dome Renovation Live Feed on the website.
I hope your summer months are enjoyable and productive. Look forward another update as camp begins in August.

Speaking of positions, does anyone have access to the Argus' position group breakdown articles? It would be great to get some preseason football talk going.

I get the argus in print, not sure how I could help you with that though. I get them, but don't like to post articles (just links) since it is literally the subscriptions and page views that pay the sports writer's salaries. That said, for today it is $29 for an entire year of digital content. Pony up Yote fans, and remember more clicks = more coverage.

More coverage equals more clicks. I have a hard time subscribing to the Argus when the assign a full-time beat writer to State College and only a part-timer to USD. Hank does a great job when he has the time to devote to USD, but he is spread too damn thin with also handling all the high school coverage, to give USD the coverage I expect.

I guess we'll need to show them that we will pay in subscriptions for a full timer. $29 is reasonable.

I have the full access Mon-Sat for $17 a month. So hopefully they don't just take into account clicks online to decide on what stories to write.

They have written articles on three position groups so far. Quarterbacks, Running Backs, and Wide Receivers. Brian Haenchen wrote the WR article. All three have been well written and informative. I'm an all access Digital subscriber and think it's worth the $.

To be fair Zimmer does more than just SDSU, his primary focus is SDSU but he covers quite a bit of the SXF universities and SXF pro sport teams. That said Zim does a great job and we are fortunate to have him, Hank will do well for you guys...but it's like others have said, you want more coverage, subscribe and click.

I ponied up the dough. So far the three articles were all pretty solid reviews. In summary, they were pretty complimentary of Simmons and our receivers. The big things to watch for this fall look to be the battle for backup QB, which WR'S rise to the top of our deepest unit, and if how much stronger our running backs have or have not gotten. Personally, I think our RB's could breakout with better blocking. Not being able to punch it in from the 1 yard lome at home against the bison was the most embarrassing moment of a long day.
