Wasn't sure where to put these interviews, because they both discuss the Men's and Women's USD/SDSU games. So I thought this was a good spot. KWSN interviews with Brad Newitt (MidcoSN), and Matt Zimmer (Argus).

Newitt on the Women's game:
"...We've never seen an Aaron Johnston team get dominated like that in a Summit League game... I really just felt like there was a lot of pent-up frustration on the USD side... just wanting to extract some pain over last year's (SLT) game, ... and they sure did."
"...Honestly, SD State just didn't know what hit them... they aren't used to having to deal with that kind of adversity in the Summit League, and I don't think they knew quite know how to react to it."
" (on defense) it all starts (in my mind) with Hannah Sjerven in the middle... she is a great protector of the paint and the rim... that allows the rest of the team to be very aggressive...the ball pressure is just relentless..."

Newitt on Duffy:
"..You don't see a lot of players that are able to play with a lot of Basketball I.Q.... and also play at a high level from an intensity standpoint... that's a really tough mix, but Duffy does that, and does it consistently..."
Newitt on Coach P:
"I would never put the term 'laid back' next to Dawn Plitzuweit. She's an intense gal.... She coaches at a high-octane level. I think that's just who she is."

Newitt on USD men:
"Tristan Simpson... just looked healthy for the first time in quite a while... he kinda steamrolled some momentum for his team... even since his comeback, it didn't seem like USD's been able to put it all together, but boy they sure did yesterday.... This is a team that can get scoring from everyone in their starting lineup at a very high level."
on Jacks:
"I think what surprised me the most is how much (Wilson's absence) impacted SDSU defensively....USD had a lot of points at the rim in this game, and I think if Wilson's in the game that maybe changes..."
best starting 5 in Summit (if everyone healthy):
"I think it's South Dakota. They've got players that can score a lot of different ways... Tyler Hagedorn is a really difficult mismatch. You put a small player on him, he'll go inside. You put a post on him, like SDSU did, and he hits four threes."

Zimmer (starts at 14:20 mark) on if this USD WBB team is the most dominant collection of players he has seen in the five years he has covered the Summit League?
"Yeah, I think so. Last year SDSU obviously made the Sweet 16, and were a very dominant team. But they were carried largely by Macy Miller and Maddie Guebert. That's not a knock on them. Those are two of the greatest players we've ever seen in the Summit League.
But what makes this USD team a little different (not saying better, but different), is just how deep they are. They are so loaded.... at what position does USD NOT have the advantage against every team that they play (in conference) this year, including SDSU?
They're gonna be in the NCAA tournament, whether they stub their toe in the SLT or not. They're gonna threaten 30 wins. This is a really really dominant team."
on SDSU:
"I do think that SDSU was exposed a little bit in this game. Maybe they're not quite as good as we thought...."
"USD realizes they were trying to get the ball to Paiton Burckhart and Tagyn Larson. They haven't been able to replace Macy and Madison. They don't have the outside scoring punch, so they're trying to get it inside... they just didn't have the firepower. They literally were just over-matched.

Zimmer on what SDSU needs to do to challenge USD (women):
"AJ said that they do need more scoring from their guards, but really they need more scoring from everybody. He's right. Burckhard only had 11 points, Larson only attempted two or three shots. She was a non-factor, and that can't happen to one of their best players... They don't have Macy Miller anymore, where they can just hand her the ball and she scores 30 points. They've gotta have a total balanced team effort."
To their credit, that's what they've been doing. They got off to a 6-0 start. Having Myah Selland would make a difference, but they're not gonna have Myah Selland.... The good news if you're SDSU is that you got a little bit of a wake-up call... if you do the same thing the next time, you're gonna get your butt kicked again."
"Having seen what AJ has been able to do as that team's coach, I don't think anyone will be surprised to see when the Coyotes come to Brookings in a month, it's a totally different game. I still think USD is the better team, and I'll pick them to win every game they play this year, but AJ's done a tremendous job throughout his career in finding a way to get something out of his team.... it will be very interesting to see how they adjust going forward"

On Wilson for the Jacks (men):
"They need him. He's their best player. I think they discovered in that game against the Coyotes that he's not just their leading scorer. They missed him defensively, too. It was really jarring to see how lackadaisical they were on defense. It cost them the game. They shot 70% on 3-pointers, and still lost by 17."
"I don't know if he plays tomorrow. Sounds like a 50/50 shot..."
ON the game:
"It was just a good game. USD played at home. They played well. They won. I don't know that there are any big lessons to take away about either team. They're both fairly evenly matched."

Jacks men beat the Bison 78-73 at Frost last night. Anyone watch that game? Wilson played. So that puts them at 6-2 at the top of the league. NDSU now at 4-2. Four teams with two losses now.

The Bunnies have played 8 conference games, 4 at home & 4 on the road. All other teams have played 6 conference games, except for Omaha & PFW,who have only played 5 games. Interesting scheduling.

I was thinking about that too. In addition, our men and women are now playing PFW for the second time, but still haven't played ORU or UND. I think that possibly the reason has to do with trying to get a lot of double-headers and travel partner-type games? Hard to say, but in years past this was not the case. We played all teams in the first half, then again in the second.

Well, the NDSU women just beat Denver in OT in a game that they committed 32 Turnovers. Looks like Denver could be trending down without their HC. Also, Jory Collins appears to be doing good things with his team despite the obvious talent gap. NDSU actually kept pace with SDSU for three quarters before the Jacks took control in the 4th Q.
This development (NDSU) is a good thing for the league. If he can get some talent to Fargo he should have that team out of the conference basement, and back to helping rather than harming the RPI. Denver backsliding isn't good, of course.

I think NDSU is going to be a good middle of the pack team next season. The only thing I hope is that he sticks around after he turns them around. There’s no doubt that if he can turn a cellar dweller into a top 3-4 that he’ll have other offers start coming in. I’d really like to see the Summit become a stronger league overall and that starts with getting the good coaches to stick around.

The school I don't understand is Denver. With all the perceived advantages inherent with that school, a person would think that they'd always be among the top teams in the standings. Their men are the pits and now if the women's team slide into that abyss they could develop into the worst basketball school in the Summit. Are they that much of a hockey school?
