Mike Daum had more time to build up buzz. Hags has more gradually become the player he is. Also he doesn't have the kind of personality that draws attention. For example, he's probably statistically as good or better than Mooney, but Mooney was way more emotionally charged on the court. Also, Hagedorn didn't even play last year. Plus he was supposed to be overshadowed by his two preseason 1st team all-conference teammates in Simpson and Umude.

11 of 16 games into conference play, and the men's teams are finally separating into tiers.
9-2 SDSU 9-2 NDSU 8-3 USD
5-5 Omaha 5-6 ORU 5-6 UND 5-6 PFW
2-9 WIU 1-10 Denver

There are three tiers on the women' side, as well.
11-0 USD 10-1 SDSU
7-4 WIU 6-5 ORU 5-6 UND 4-7 NDSU 4-7 Denver
1-9 Omaha 1-10 PFW
SDSU continues to keep pace with USD, setting up a meaningful rematch in Brookings.
WIU continues to hang on to that 3-seed spot, but isn't getting separation from the pack, yet. ORU seems to be improving a little, UND and Denver back-sliding. NDSU should be very happy with their new coach's progress.
Not impressed with Omaha. They play decent defense, but need to find some scoring.

Keni Jo Lippe from ORU scored 46 points in their OT win at Fargo yesterday! That's a Summit all-time and NCAA D-1 season record!
She went 17-26 FG(65%), 3-5 3P (60%), 9-10 FT (90%).... insane.
It's a good thing we had Arens on her when we played ORU. I remember Monica taking a charge from Lippe early in the game, and that set the tone for Lippe having to be a little less aggressive attacking the rim, which is her normal M.O. That's an important "game within the game" when matching up with a crafty scorer like Lippe.

I also remember Lippe scoring a lot against Duffy and then we put Monica on her and she slowed down considerably.

I also remember Lippe scoring a lot against Duffy and then we put Monica on her and she slowed down considerably. Yeah, I don't recall exactly at what point in the game it happened, but after Monica took that charge, Lippe seemed less inclined to attack the basket with impunity. It probably helps that we can foul out Monica and still have talent on the court to win the game, and ORU doesn't have the same luxury. Allows us to play with more risk and aggression.

Also could be why Monica didn’t start on her, so she didn’t get into early foul trouble. If memory serves me correctly, Monica had a big scoring outburst that game.

If I were to vote for SL All-Conference team, I'd have to say our starting 5 are all clearly 1st Teamers (Coyote-colored glasses of course).

Saying this with no validation (too busy/lazy to look up) but having watched nearly every game, she is getting it done with few whistles. Of course, our conference foes haven't provided much competition on the inside game. Also a shout out to Taylor Frederick. She is pretty much unstoppable in the paint. Love her attitude and work ethic.

With SDSU women losing tonight that should wrap up the conference race. I could see us possibly losing at Brookings but I can't imagine us losing two games.

Brookings will obviously be tough, but I don't think Oral Roberts will be any walk in the park either. I would certainly hope we easily hold serve at home against the two Nodaks though.

Yikes. Lost at home to a 4-7 Denver team. When's the last time they lost to anyone but USD at home? Especially in league play.
