The championship match was a 5-set thriller. Such high-level play on both sides. Both teams deserved to be there. Really entertaining match for any fan of volleyball. I’m a Husker fan (second to the Coyotes), but that blocking from the Badgers was impenetrable. Badgers were loaded with seniors and super seniors. The Huskers have top-three ranked recruiting classes stacked up for the next few years. They will have more chances of adding a 6th natty. Also, we shouldn’t lose Bergen Reilly’s number. With that much talent going to Lincoln, there are bound to be some transfers out for playing time…. Sucks that her sister just transferred to State. We screwed up the Reagan Reilly thing bad. She was committed to USD then we signed that setter out of Papillion, NE who is year older than she is. Can't think of her name at the moment but she got a few minutes this season, mostly for serving. Reilly wanted to be a Yote and she's the better setter IMO.

My daughter played for the Badgers so obviously that’s who I was cheering for. But if Wisconsin doesn’t throw that block party Nebraska wins easy. Nebraska’s “in system” offense was far better than Wisconsin’s. Nebraska played a clean match. Also both liberos were frickin fantastic, but the gal from Wisconsin was off the charts. She alone won the 2nd set. Major factor in other sets.
During the season that’s exactly why I alluded to the fact if the Coyotes could pass effectively nobody in the league could play with us. Right now that’s our Achilles heal. Get some back row players or good people upfront that can pass the ball, we’ll be ok for years to come. Juehnke or Slaughter can play the front pretty close to what the bigs do. They don’t quite cut the ball like what you watched last night, but they’re close.
Two really good teams and they both were on full display. Big Ten volleyball is as tough as nails. That’s why Louisville and Pitt weren’t in the finals. They don’t see it in more than w5-30% if their matches. The Bug Ten is loaded. Nebraska, Wisconsin, Purdue, Ohio state, penn State, minnesota….blah blah blah
Think about this….UNO took Nebraska to 5 sets. UNO
Great national championship.

I’m not sure if they played a home and home or not. To lazy to look. I’m pretty sure Minnesota beat Nebraska in Minneapolis but not 100% certain.
Wisconsin is just a notch above those two.

Wisconsin graduates a lot. Nebraska doesn’t. There’s your 2022 champs if I had to bet

Bummer. Well, it’s hard to really say how good Schram is, since Jurgens was playing 100% of the time…

Raegan had not yet given a verbal commitment, but she was leaning towards USD. It was between us, state and the Bison. I guess I thought she was committed but I got ahead of myself lol. But the fact still remains we missed out on a good player there.

But the fact still remains we missed out on a good player there. Well, that's not as bad of a situation, then. If she never committed in the first place, no harm no foul, I think. I trust our coaches that they are going to go after who they feel the program needs. It might have been simply bad timing in terms of classes, and balance on the roster. You don't want to go three classes with no setter in it (I wouldn't think). Leanne probably likes to have at least one year to train them before they get significant minutes. Sure, sometimes having a local kid that is talented is worth more than balancing classes, but we really don't know all the details, either. Schram was apparently the #1 setter in her class in Nebraska, so that's saying a lot in a volleyball state. I was surprised we didn't see more of her playing this year as a backup, though. At the end of the day there are only 12 scholarships for a team that is usually larger than that. They have to be judicious with how they hand them out. Choosing between the best setter in SD vs the best setter in NE is a good problem to have, I think. Let's hope Schram (or Woodin who will be a freshman) turns out well. Leanne simply doesn't field teams with poor setters. It doesn't happen. She typically has multi-year all-conference setters. If Schram isn't good enough, they will get a transfer player, or train up the freshman. JMO

Leanne always has great setters and knows what she's doing when she builds a recruiting class. I misspoke about the commitment thing because I misunderstood the situation I guess. At the time, I thought I'd heard she was committed to the U but that was obviously false information. I hope Reagan is happy in Brookings, but at the same time I hope she never beats USD.
