Just checked the rules, and this does, in fact, count towards the CoyDog JayRabbit standings. Just playing an unbalanced schedule this year... The only missing game would be Drake/SDSU USD ____1-0 Creighton 1-1 Drake ___1-1 SDSU ___0-1 This is the deciding game. Winner takes all. The only game left after this is USD-SDSU, which won't matter for the trophy.

Watson will be key in this game. We need to compete for offensive rebounds, and we need for Watson to hit some shots. And the big 3 need to keep doing what they do. Hopefully Sjerven can stay out of foul trouble as she has been doing. Might depend on how the game is called, though. If Sjerven's minutes are limited, Mazurek's play will be key.
If we see Watson, Krull or Larkins hitting some shots early in the game, I'll be like: <insert nodding GIF here>

It seems like it's just a matter of time before Watson starts hitting some perimeter shots. She's got a good looking stroke and she misses like a shooter, always on line. I find it almost impossible that she and Krull will continue to shoot as poorly as they have been. Averages gotta take over here soon, particularly with the schedule easing up a bit in conference. It is one of the dangers of playing such a brutal non-conference schedule. Outside of the Briar Cliff game there wasn't much of an opportunity for the less experienced players to find their groove and get some confidence. But everybody's right, this team is a typically disruptive defensive team (as good as any Vermillion's ever seen) and as some of these role players just get a tad more comfortable and start kind of taking turns being that fourth and fifth player that can come up with a timely bucket things are going to take off. They just won't continue to shoot this poorly as a team.

Thanks Men's League Waterboy!!! I appreciate the help looking stupid!! The point that I am trying to make is since 2017 every Yote Women's team has average in the 70-80 points per game and even with a subpar defensive effort on some nights they could outscore their opponents. This year has been a bit of a different story. No, I have to say this may be a direct result of the quality of the opponents in 2021 thus far on the offensive side of things. It will only help when the conference season rolls in. I'm sorry. That may have been overly snarky on my part. I sincerely apologize. And I agree with you that the strength of schedule has certainly had something to do with the less than optimal offensive numbers thus far.

I did. I agree and disagree. I agree that way too many people think they should be shooting threes now just because it's "smart analytics." But I disagree that Steph Curry has in any way ruined the game. Just because lots of people want to be you and can't isn't your fault. The same was often said of Jordan after he retired if I remember correctly. I love basketball because it is such a free-flowing, relatively young game that we've watched morph and evolve in very short periods of time. I like Bob Ryan and respect what he's saying but I think there's a little more shade of gray in what he's watching than maybe he wants to admit in that column.

But I was also raised in a family (long before anybody heard of analytics) where it was just taught as good basketball that if you were a 40 percent 3-point shooter you launched whenever and from wherever you could get it off.

That said, I've also been saying for quite a while that things have to swing. Just like in football. As defenders adapt to a more spread out, faster game, some people will take advantage with a power game on offense and punish conventional wisdom. It's why while I believe analytics obviously have a place in sport, they can never actually be the end all. It's a flesh and blood game where you have to do what YOU do best. Not what the mathematicians tell you is best.

... She's got a good looking stroke and she misses like a shooter, always on line... Good observation. So when my son hits the back iron on an arc shot, I should be encouraged? jk Watson is really fun to watch, and I hope she gains the confidence she needs as a shooter. Some of her aerial rebounds and blocks are... surprising. Like, what did I just see? I get the feeling she could dunk it, but wouldn't. Too flashy.

Missing short or long is always encouraging, I think. That's usually a pretty easy fix. It's when you're spraying it that you've got problems.

Yotes down 8-18 after 1Q.
Not ideal start

30-38 at half. Creighton shooting 7-15 from the arc, and 5-6 from the line.

Creighton is playing pretty well and with attitude/spunk. Yotes are not (on either front).

The start to the 3rd quarter is bananas.
