Home sweet home. Maddie Krull strolls into Omaha and has her breakout game from the field. Yep.

Geesh. Talk about escaping with a W. Sure wish we could have landed Ronsiek, she is a great player (9 for 11 tonight). Ronsiek was more concerned with the notoriety and the Big East "prestige" than with joining the best basketball program from what I heard. I have some sources that were pretty close during the decision making on her part. I'm OK with her going to Creighton. I mean, we've beat them like 6 or 8 times in a row. Now that you say it, I remember hearing that too. I should have phrased my thought better - she is the exact type of player this team seems to be missing most nights (some size and ability to stretch defenses with the 3). On a VERY related note, I noticed Morgan Hansen jumping around w/o a boot after the game. Hoping she is close to returning.

Experience seemed to pay off during this game. It is somewhat worrisome to me that the bench only played 8 minutes in the entire game. A win is a win against a very good Creighton team at their house and I will take it every time. I believe we should see a boost when Hansen returns and Maddie K had a very nice game with 16 points, played 37 minutes with only 1 turnover and 2 blocks. Now it is time to take care of business in conference. Go Yotes!!!

Well, I guess the stats and trends had very little outcome on the game results. Throw the stat sheet out the window. That game was all about trust and faith in your players and teammates, and mental toughness and confidence on the part of Krull and Watson.
Creighton literally did everything right, and still lost. What a game. Too bad most of us didn’t get to watch it.

Post-game interview from Creighton.
They look and sound completely shell-shocked. They're not wrong, though. Creighton's game plan was solid, and they executed it very well. They just didn't count on an offensive awakening from the Yotes.

That’s really funny actually. Recent history shows the result of the game wasn’t really a surprise,

Hopefully we can get more out of our bench going forward. It will be tough to keep our starters fresh this year if they are playing almost every minute.

Pretty sure Dawn said on Monday night that Morgan was getting 100% cleared within a week.
The depth is an issue, but in a big game like that after several days rest it’s not unusual to ride your starters hard.

I agree depth is important but in really tough games starters need to be ready to play max if necessary and Yotes were. I interesting that Creighton had 21 bench points to the Yotes 0 but still lost.
kiyoat if you don't mind did their starters score more per minute or did their bench players?

Two quick observations: 1. Though the Yotes were on fire for the 3rd quarter and a bit of the 4th, Creighton was just as on-fire. They didn't miss a 2pter in the 3rd quarter, and were 3-7 from 3. Don't make it sound like the reason for the loss was the Yotes shot out of their minds. You shot out of yours too, including players who are not shooters or were having poor shooting stats so far this year. 2. Tell me if you've heard this one before: There should have been a foul called on Hannah's game-winning shot. It sure looks like the ref was going to call it if the shot didn't go in, so that is at least an improvement. (watch his left hand...)

Thanks kiyoat!
I don't want anyone to take my post about depth wrong. I absolutely agree bench contributions especially over a period of time are very important!!

* = starter Looks like we shut down Bachelor and Jensen pretty well. As a starter Bachelor only got 17 minutes, and I think she had early fouls and was benched . Brotski also only played 10 minutes.
