Congrats guys. Your team was obviously well prepared and executed their game-plan to near perfection. It was obvious to me that EWU just thought they were going to walk in there and grab an easy win. Pathetic performance by a team with such lofty expectations, but I'll give you guys all the props in the world. Great job. This. There aren't words for how disappointed I am. USD played lights out and was ready for us. We weren't prepared at all and played very uninspired football. What a gut-check. Congrats.

It was fabulous being there today and being able to see the kids' reactions as the game went on. Very proud of them, the coaches and of being a Coyote today. If USD isn't on the front page of the Argus sports section tomorrow.... I'm canceling my subscription! On the front, but below the fold and SDSU's write up.

I'm too hungover to provide any in-depth observations, but USD was obviously prepared to play and implemented a clever and effective game plan. While EWU undoubtedly came out flat, our players and coaches deserve all the credit in the world for outplaying the nation's #1 team when they did realize the Yotes were for real. Just fantastic.

I believe EWU will win this game by at least 2 TDs.....could be more. bisoninnwmn, thanks for sharing. I think you are thinking ahead to your two td loss U of M will serve up to you soon..... could be more. Holy crap was I out to lunch on this one. Great job by the Coyotes. It would have been a good one to see. ....and the Gophers will not beat us by more than 2 TDs....I fully expect a Bison win.

I posted this on another board in response to an EWU fan. My thoughts on yesterday's game:
A few things I noticed at the game yesterday.
The Yotes were way more physical than EWU. The offensive line and running game imposed their will on the EWU defense. The running game was key and the Coyotes delivered hammering out 5 to 6 yard carries whenever they needed them it seemed. The EWU running game was non-existent and not because they chose not to run the ball, they couldn't run the ball, there was no choice. They came out at the start of the game and tried to run but could not do anything. After a while they abandoned the run and went to 4 and 5 receiver sets. The defensive secondary for USD laid down some bone rattling hits. One hit in particular was when one of our DB's hammered the EWU tight end after the TE made what would have been a crucial catch on third down in USD territory. The USD defender was outsized but hit the EWU player so hard he seperated him from the ball, I thought he broke the kids ribs. Another big hit was on a punt return where the USD blocker sloberknockered an EWU player springing the punt returner for a big gain. I was suprised at how soft EWU was, not suprised at USD's physical play because that is the norm for them.
USD has more team speed than EWU. Jeremy Blount for USD easily ran by the EWU secondary for the second touchdown of the game. Him, Will Powell, and the other USD receivers as a group were faster than the EWU receivers. It appeared to me the EWU receivers were slow as they never really challenged the USD secondary deep. EWU does have some big receivers which caused the secondary to play off them and give them a cushion. I had heard the WR for EWU, the player that wears #1, was supposed to be good, not impressed. Big target, but slow. Defensively, USD had more speed on the D-Line and in the linebacker corp than the EWU offense was able to handle. Tyler Starr, a sophomore LB/DE for USD had another good game and made the EWU O-lineman look really bad. Shane Potter, Jim Thompson, and Marquis Butler all had great games in the USD secondary.
Honestly, I don't think EWU is very good, either that or USD made them look bad. The team UNI brought into the Dome last year was a lot better, as was last year's Cal Poly team. EWU reminded me a little bit of UNC from last year, but a little bit better. The score was 30-17 but it should have been worse. USD had one TD called back for a suspect holding call, one called back for offensive pass interference (a very bad call), and had another offensive pass interference called against them on a third down play in EWU territory that stalled another drive. Another suspect call that turned a TD scoring drive into a FG instead. The score should have been more like 38 or 42 to 17.
Someone posted how USD should have shown some class at the end of the game, are you kidding me? Did you watch what transpired? EWU was the team that was classless in defeat. The second to last play of the game Dante Warren takes a knee, and with one knee on the turf gets blasted by an EWU player. Your coaches did the right thing and pulled the kid and the head coach chewed him out good. The very next play, the last one of the game, an EWU defender was in the scrum and I counted as he threw 5 haymakers at a USD player. EWU got their @ss whooped and they didn't like it so they resorted to cheapshots out of frustration. Maybe they should have shown that much fire at the start of the game. You think the USD players were going to stand for that? That's how things got out of control. EWU got booed off the field for their antics and deservedly so.
Bottom line is the better team won. I doubt if they played again that the result would be any different. USD is just a bigger, faster, more physical team.

I am surprised someone said USD acted without class. One of the EWU players (I think it was 86), flipped off the USD crowd as he walked past on his way out the door. Very unimpressed with how the EWU players handled themselves at the end. I hope the player that threw five punches at Jeremy Blount sits the next few games. Jeremy was admirable in not retaliating and getting away from the idiot as quick as possible. USD classless - I don't think so, more like the other way around.

What a game! I still have not gotten my voice back yet. It was great to see the poise and execution in the 4th quarter that seemed to lack at times last year in the bigger games. They showed grit and determination every time it looked like EWU was going to make one of their runs we all thought would come. Sure there were a couple calls that we didn't agree with, but I also saw a couple of favorable bounces, too (Dantes ball that bounced right back to him and whatever happened in that scrum on the missed snap).
Great game and proud of the men!!!

The USD players did not act with "class". They were talking shit the entire last series. You think altercations just happen for no reason whatsoever? Your QB was still standing when that hit was put on him. He was not on a "knee" as you described. Was it necessary? No, not at all......but if your team wants to talk shit and your QB wants to stand up in the victory formation he's fair game to be hit. B.) The situation with the player throwing 5 "haymakers" is not as all as you described it. C.) If your post is any indication of the classiness of your team, then it's no wonder things got out of hand towards the end. I came on here after the game and handed out congratulations to your team and fans, and you come on here talking shit and trying to fuel the fire. Yeah, that's class.

ewuranger, just because you don't like someone's post does not mean they are talking sh#%.
I have sat in the first row at all USD home games for the past 4 seasons and here are a few observations.
I have never had a team looking up into the crowd - thumping their chest and making remarks , growls , barks etc ever. I found it strange.
I was surprised your team came across as much more of a finesse team rather than a bruising physical team. Yote53 is right - UNI looks like Tarzan and hit like Tarzan. Your guys were not as physically impressive, nor did they hit like what I expected from a #1 ranked defending champ.
As far as the end of the game - go back and re-watch the tape. Your two big DL men - especially the one with really long hair was hopping up and down and talking an awful lot during the last series of victory formation. To top it off your End or LB waxed our QB when he was taking a knee. Good thing your coach took him out of there immediately - prob for his protection.
I am sure you are disappointed - after playing UW so close I am sure the expectations were high as ever. As much as I would love for your team to run the table the rest of the season, that looks very unlikely unless the BSC is a lot less physical than I thought this year. MSU sure was physical two years ago when SD was there, and I think they are even better now - so my guess is you are in trouble.
Good luck.

Why did the Big Sky and EWU coaches feel it necessary to suspend the player for the Montana game for throwing punches? I talked to someone who was on the sidelines, there was a lot of trash talking the whole game by both teams. More than usual he said, and it was intense out there, very intense. Given that environment I find it hard to believe EWU was not fired up in this game. I also have seats in the front row which literally overhangs the visitor bench. It was tense.
Trash talking is one thing. Fighting and flipping off the crowd is another.
It was a hard fought game. I wish EWU good luck the rest of the season. Now go beat some Griz.

Yeah I am going to have to call BS too. EW came in there like they owned the place and couldn't take it when they were getting beat by a team from SD. You could tell it was only a matter of time before punches were thrown. Yeah your DL was throwing punches. There were a couple SD players on their backs at the end with EW guys on top of them throwing punches and another chasing after Blount.
I also think it is hilarious when you go to the EWU message board and see how everyone said they just weren't ready to play and would have blown us out if they would have come ready to play.
I also agree with usdfbalum. I was really expecting guys that were just going to come out and hit you in the mouth and it never happened. EW isn't near as physical as UNI. They didn't have near as much team speed as I thought they would have either. Not really impressed with a team that couldn't run the ball at all either.

It seems it should be noted on this board that Eastern Washington went to Missoula this weekend... Montana 17, EWU 14.
Playing at Montana is always tough. I think the score shows EWU is still a good team. More proof that USD's dominating win over EWU is impressive.

Teams in front of USD who lost:
18. Central Arkansas (1-2) lost to Sam Houston State (2-0), 31-10 19. Stephen F. Austin (1-2) lost to Baylor (2-0), 48-0 20. Sacramento State (1-2) lost to Weber State (1-2), 49-17 22. Liberty (1-2) lost to James Madison (2-1), 27-24
Partially why the Coyotes moved up those few spots.
If (and when) USD loses at Wisconsin, I wouldn't expect the Yotes to drop out of the top 25. For the time being, as long as they keep winning, they'll be safe.
