Anyone have a clue why KIAN REXROAT-POTTS is not in the spring roster? I suppose this is his 4th year and he could be graduating, although, I believe that he has two years of eligibility remaining. I noticed that too and wondered what was up. Two year starter. This is probably why recruiting classes are so heavy in offensive linemen.

Kody Case enters the transfer portal

Kody Case enters the transfer portal This is a confusing one for me. If you want to hang it up, that's one thing. But where did he think he'll end up in the portal? I doubt teams are lining up to offer a guy that hasn't been on the field in like 4 years. Unless he's looking to drop down a division or 2.

Maybe the injuries have moved him down the depth chart? Wondering if he is looking to drop down a level or something. The best ability is availability. Case was brilliant his first couple of seasons but then unfortunately he couldn't stay on the field after that. I thank him for all he's done for Coyote football and wish him well.

I’m reading the tea leaves on this one, but if you look, the WR room has gone from one of the strengths of the team to now decimated by defections (transfer portal entries). There is still a lot of talent there, but it’s now unproven where as before it was tremendous. I wonder if it was because the WRs were so dissatisfied with the old WR Coach that it soured them on USD football, enough to leave the program even though there was a change in their position coach. There were major grumblings in season about no consistency in substitution patterns and on who was starting or playing the majority of snaps and the lack of having the best players on the field together most of the game. Just a thought?

Just a thought? Yeah idk what is going on there but would be curious to know as well. Carter bell will be relied on heavily. Curious to see makai Lovett get on the field this year. He is a physical specimen. But yeah besides bell and eliodor there’s basically no experience there. Hopefully that isn’t an issue by the fall because the rest of the offense should be ready to roll.

Just a thought? Is this anything like the inmates trying to run the asylum? Wide receiver has always seemed to be the ultimate plug and play position where a freshman with some talent can step right in and contribute. Kody Case is a super dynamic player, but face it: How many games has he played in the past three seasons? We have an offense that is very wide receiver friendly plus a young quarterback who they would want throwing to them. I have confidence in the receiver corps for the upcoming season.

I'm not worried about WR. We have a talented group of young guys that I feel can step in and be productive. My biggest concern is TE. We have Goehring but other than that who else? TE has been a huge weapon for us the last 2-3 seasons and we will need somebody to take over Samson's role and productivity.
If OL keeps progressing and building depth, RB room is loaded, Camp keeps developing...WR should not be an issue.

I like the young WRs and think they can step in and play. I also wouldn't mind going and grabbing a guy or two off the portal. Find a B1G guy that is buried on the depth chart and bring him to Vermillion. WR is the one position on offense that in my opinion you can plug a new guy into without missing a beat.

There's our answer for TE depth. I totally forgot about Galbreath. I'm excited about his potential there.
It will be interesting to see how the RB situation unfolds. We have a plethora of guys that have shown promise and deserve carries. Theis, Nate Thomas, Mansaray, Lawrence...There's only so many touches to go around.
Nice to hear good things about Makai Lovett developing into a weapon. Hoping he turns into the monster that Schalfke is describing. we haven't really had a true physical threat to win a 50/50 ball in awhile.

He looked ready last year but looks like an animal this year. We never have big physical receivers.

Lawrence blew that knee out in late September. I won’t be shocked if he isn’t ready until about halfway through the year. Maybe they save him for the 2nd half with fresh legs?

Here is the story I put together on the defense's spring standouts.
