Yotes got beat by a 4-12 team in the same conference. I’m totally hoping for a big win here but there’s a lot more signs pointing to disappointment than triumph. I will be cheering my ass off in front of the TV … and I pray Lamb is not only hot but also gets lost a lot by the D in this one because I desperately want to see her in particular go out with guns blazing. But this is not a good matchup. Period. Yotes are at their best when Sjerven’s the biggest, strongest kid on the floor. History has not been great to them when that’s not the case. Again, I really want it not to be the case but I’m a basketball realist before a Coyote diehard. I agree on the match up. But I do think Sjerven can largely neutralize Austin (Austin may 'win' the match up, but she won't go 30/20 or something wild). I"m not sure I have any idea how Lamb/Korngable match up against their defensive guards. Or if Watson even has a real score-first guard to play defense against. Not much is said of anyone other than Austin, which is what gives me some optimism.

I think that’s fair. I don’t think Ole Miss is going to go out and put 80 on you. My worry is that this is another 45-50 point game for the Yotes. Can you find something that you can go to that’s going to generate reliable looks? Can you get the ball moving off somebody’s dribble penetration, a post touch or sets that gets you some clean looks?
We’ll see.
I just hope they can find something early to get that little boost of confidence and plant the seed of doubt in their opponent. Who knows, maybe Sjerven draws to quick ones on Austin and there’s a first half run in the Yotes. I hope so … because watching her highlights she’s going to present some challenges USD has not seen.

Hoping that a 32 percent 3-point shooting team comes out hot against a bigger, more athletic team strikes me as overly optimistic. Unless Korngable can channel Nicole Seekamp through a pregame seance or something. But again, in Chloe Lamb I trust. She’s gonna have to go off.

On the surface it looks like a matchup nightmare. And might be. That being said, and I mean this not as a homer but as a former athlete, sometimes you know the world thinks you are outgunned, but the competitive nature in you just finds a way.
Everyone on this board ( with perhaps the exception of our visitors from up north ) wants us to get a win. This team may get exposed, I don’t know. But IF there’s a team that can overcome adversity, or IF there’s a coach that can figure it out from an X’s and O’s perspective, that team and that coach lives in Vermillion.
I believe in them.
I say we get a 3 point W

62-59. Lamb scores 27 with 6 3’s. Watson hits wide open game winner from the corner at the buzzer. I could see that.

All three of the Super Seniors, at one time or another, have said their motivation for coming back was to win an NCAA game. They'd accomplished everything possible at the conference level...multiple times, but that win in The Dance had eluded them, and that's why they're here. These girls have proven they have the "it factor". Whether that's enough to get the win remains to be seen. What we can be sure of is that no one from Ole Miss is gonna outwork them.

And no one will out coach Dawn

predictions: USD loses to Ole Miss 56-60 (+4) Massey USD beats Ole Miss --58-55 (-3) R-1 USD ties Ole Miss ----56-56 (0) ELO That's interesting. Very low total points predicted, so a defensive battle. sub-5 point margin in all predictions. Will have to do a major stats thingy. ESPN's BPI has ----------USD with a 55% chance of winning. FiveThirtyEight.com has USD with a 41% chance of winning. Sports Illustrated: 2 of 7 experts picked USD to win CBS Sports: -------1 of 3 experts picked USD to win

Wow. They are really doubling down on the "SD will be shocked by our defense" and "they haven't seen anything like us", despite the fact that they know we have played SC. I mean, its certainly possible we get blown out. But the over-confidence is real.

I actually found it to be the media and the players sort of proclaiming the win and less the coach. Their coach seems to understand a little more that it’s going to be a challenge. Still seemed confident in a win, but wasn’t outright saying it.
It’s just all talk right now, we’ll see if they can walk to walk tomorrow. I’m not saying it’ll be an easy game, but I do like our odds. They’re a difficult team for sure but as i said before the most pressure is on them not us. If they wanna up the pressure on themselves i guess go for it.

It is interesting to see the amazing level of confidence this coach is planting in her players compared to the Providence coach having a Rodney Dangerfield approach prior to their game. Different stokes, I guess. But it really does make me want to beat them.
