Welcome Coach K! I'm going to reserve judgment until I see the actual product on the court, but I think this hire will workout surprisingly well. She can lose a couple of transfers and still have enough talent on the roster to be in a class above the rest of the conference sans SDSU. She also gets to inherit an incredible culture and winning tradition that she helped to create. You can't ask for a better scenario for a young, hungry first time head coach to make that transition. There will be some growing pains, but overall, this will be fun. would be interesting to know how much interest there was in the job from existing head coaches. If they could have found one who would have brought a staff with them with a coaching philosophy already in place, it would have been easier to hit the ground running. If there weren't any of those available that met with there approval, then it makes sense to go with someone with previous USD ties. But it will take some time to build a staff, and then get everyone from different backgrounds on the same page. Right now just a bunch of role players, tough when you don’t return and double digit scorers. So, did you completely retype this from the bunny board, or did you just cut and paste?

This is all great but do we have Maddie and Kyah back? Dude, relax. The coach was just announced. Some people, myself included, think this was a great hire. Getting a thumbs up from current players and big recruits is a huge positive. If you can’t celebrate the small victories along the way, fandom isn’t a lot of fun, is it?

I’m sure we are likely to learn what the future holds for Kyah and Maddie soon

My gut feel is they will come back. The girls on the team were “over the top” ecstatic about the hire. There will be strong pulls to return I would think.

What’s with all the bunny fans in Coyote skins trying to stir the pot? Isn’t there enough good things going on in Brookings to occupy their minds, or is this an unhealthy obsession?
The idea that the Coyotes will be terrible once (A B, and C) graduate is a tired old trope we have seen multiple times before.
Keep thinking that.

Amen, regardless of whether Maddie and Kyah return we still have a solid and capable roster. I'm going to support Coach K and our women regardless of who wears the uniform. I'm very positive about the hire, and more importantly so are our players and recruits. I've seen multiple "likes" on social media from our commits to the hire. That combined with the smiles I saw on our player's faces when they met Kayla was the only endorsement of this hire I needed to see. Now we'll see if it translates to the court. It's our job as fans to show up in SCSC every game to show our support. It's time for us to not only support them on this board and SM but financially as well with membership to the Howling Pack. My personal feeling is that if you aren't doing one of those two things at a minimum then it's kind of like voting, if you don't do it then you don't have the right to complain! Go Yotes!

I have a bunny friend that always said the only reason we won at home years ago was that we played in the cavournous Dakota Dome that intimidated visiting teams!
He's had to change his tune since we win even more in the SCSC!!
Goes to show that bunny fans are a different breed of cat!!

There are a few people who think that we should’ve hired a coach that had head-coaching experience. Every coach has to start somewhere. However, having the ability to build relationships with your players is extremely important, as well as many other factors. All of the girls that are recruited have talent. The coach’s ability to bring out that talent depends a lot on their relationship, as well as the bonds and trust the coach builds between the players. The previous experience as one of Coach P‘s assistants give Coach K some basis in how Coach P accomplished this. Having been a top recruiter at a very good area team, as well as having previous experience with many of the players on our team, through both coaching and recruiting, I personally think this is a great hire!

This was a good hire. My only concern is the lack of HC experience, but this was more about keeping the culture together than starting into a new system. Welcome coach!
As for Maddie and Kyah, I also think they'll be back. At this point in their careers, I don't think they have the stat lines to get a real hard look from a high major. Not that they're not good enough to play there, just that they haven't had to put up crazy numbers. If the P5 schools aren't calling, I don't think there's a more attractive mid major out there at this point. Plus, they should both be starters next season so I don't think playing time is a factor here.

Welcome back Kayla, another good hire by Herbster! As stated previously, patience on the Coaching side due to experience is in order. How she builds her staff will be important. The recruiting and relationship building side looks strong, which bodes well for the continuity of a nationally acclaimed program. My guess is Yotes fans will see the kind of basketball to which they've been accustomed, allowing for a necessary tranisition, which my guess will be brief.
Go Yotes!!
