Mens presser was the same a couple weeks ago with no questions so seems to be he norm. Happy we got Kayla and think she will do well.

Our first real test and impression of Coach Karius is going to be the outcome of this transfer situation. Sure be nice to get that off on the right foot. Incredibly tough situation she was dropped into but if she is able to save those two as Yotes it would be a GIANT first win for her and build even more credibility for her as a recruiter.

I heard from somebody in Rapid that Watson was taking a visit to Morgantown. That could be hometown hogwash or totally accurate ... I have no idea. Well, West Virginia is the main one recruiting her, so I could see that being true. Hopefully Coach K can talk her into staying. Watson is a huge asset to this team. That would seem to me to be a bad sign for her remaining at USD if it's indeed that far along.

What? That came after the covid regular season. Has nothing to do with it. Had they beaten Omaha and whatever other second tier team they would have faced in round 2 they would have played us on a neutral court rather than in Brookings like every other contest between the two schools that season. However, they lost to #8 seeded Omaha so that neutral court rematch never happened. Clear? Still not sure what that had to do with the discussion about playing in the dome vs the SCSC and moving goal posts? 🤷♂️

Coach P’s staff always said if they got a recruit on campus, it was all over. They had them. Hopefully haven’t refined their familiarity with Morgantown yet.

If they had had to play one game or both in Vermillion, that might not have been the case.

Immensely appreciative of everything she built and achieved here, but if she starts recruiting and taking our players she's dead to me. All the laudatory rhetoric about USD would just be empty words. I say this with full realization that many fans bow down at the mention of her name.

Great interview Jay! Kayla certainly didn't mention the elephant in the room by name but her final comments indicated to me that keeping the portal players in Vermillion is a top priority for her.

Great interview by Jay and Kayla. Looks like she is able to express her passion for USD and this opportunity that she has been given. Exciting times for her and Yote fans.
Where Kyah and Maddie are concerned I hope they have the time to make the best decision for their futures. My guess like so many athletes is the major reason they attended USD over other schools was their relationship they had with the head coach. That obviously changed and they need to decide if this is still the best fit. I know from a source that coach P has told all the players and incoming recruits that USD is a great fit for them and they should honor that commitment. So at least the information I have received from people is that her love for USD is real. However if the circumstances of your commitment have changed we should not be overly critical of players if they want to play somewhere else or even for Coach P. I love the fact that Coach Kayla is at least there to express her direction and future for them. That’s all you can really ask. Remember Coach Smith took a couple recruits with him to Utah State.
Time will tell what happens but I have seen comments questioning the loyalty of those two players which is completely unfair to them. Besides we all want them to stay and those comments and posts (on other social media outlets) do not help in the manner of keeping them here. I have heard that a couple Big Ten schools have reached out as well. I am sure when those two were little they dreamed of playing at the highest level. Let’s hope Kayla can convince them that USD will be at the highest level. That’s a big bar to remain at and surely not fair for a first year coach. Keeping my fingers crossed and Go Yotes!

The fan in me is mad about potentially losing them, but the father in me wants what's right for those kids. I can balance the two. This is just how it works. If coaches can jump ship at any time, kids should be afforded the same opportunity. The system benefits schools who are really good at recruiting and that generally comes from the top down.

All I saw was something about them claiming they would lose to us because of the dome, but had no reasoning why they keep losing to us in the SCSC.

I’m all for doing what’s best for you as a player and person as well. I would be damn concerned if I hadn’t sniffed 40 percent shooting as a fourth or fifth option in the Summit League — for an admittedly GREAT mid-major program — about the need for me to seek out a bigger stage after a Sweet 16 berth where I was at. Especially with all my scoring leaving next season and a new coach coming in looking for production.
But we’ll see.
I can’t honestly believe either is even remotely thinking about it to be frank.

It feels like some are putting a bit too much focus/pressure on the two players in the portal. Like everyone else, I hope they stay. But they are not the entire program. This program (including the players who were hurt, redshirted, or played a bit different role this past season) is in really good shape. Coach K's early tenure shouldn't be defined by two players who were in the portal before she even got here.

A little late, but welcome back to Vermillion Coach Karius, and can’t wait to cheer for your team in a few months!
