Enough KSU talk. We got paid and took a beating. It's over and done with. Time for the real opener, as far as I'm concerned. Montana will be a true measuring stick for this team - are we ready to compete with top playoff teams or not?

So what's the word on Montana? I see their QB had 4 TD passes and led the team in rushing in the opener. Solid defense, threw a shutout. And a blocked punt for a TD, yikes.
What's the scouting report for the Griz?

Pre-season Big Sky champion pick by both coaches and media. Dangerous QB like the one at Missouri State. Solid defense. Well coached.
If we are who I think we are or can be, then it’s a 4 quarter game. If we play like we did at K-State, it’s over by mid 3rd quarter. I think our defense will be fine. The question is whether or not our O-line can do their job or not. Our running backs can move the ball. Camp has to be last years version of Camp.
Is this a winnable game? Of course. But we can’t play like crap or scared. We need some good things to happen and get us off the schneid.

Of course it's a winnable game. Good thing is our offensive line won't see the same level of athleticism on their defensive line as they saw with KSU, but will see more blitz pressure from Montana. Very well coached team and a very tough venue to play in will make it a must to minimize mistakes and earn a victory. As said in an earlier post, this will definitely be a 4 quarter game no matter how you slice it. Our ability to efficiently stop the run and pressure the passer will be critical. Should be a fun one!!

Just listened to a 20 minute podcast on the Griz. My gosh do they have a high opinion of themselves. Complete domination, their D line annihilating our O-line. Basically we don’t belong on the field. Reminds me of another school in the state. They’re calling it 36-14 and the other 38-3.
These are exactly the kind of fan bases you want to stick it to.

I predicted a W in this game before the season started. The no-show at K-State has me rattled a bit. But we had several scoring chances which would have changed my perception (even though it still would have been a loss).
That said, I still think the Yotes win a close game on Saturday.

I would say this post isn't necessarily accurate. There are about four different podcasts for our team. Some pour a fair amount of sugar, most have given the Yotes have a fair fight. We are Montana, which im a proud alum. Unless you are little brother or Eastern Washington your team is viewed with serious consideration Please also remember we share a common former coach with Joe Glenn. So hope any and all can make the trip. Not taking you lightly. Message me if you can make it over for the tailgate. Best for a good game ! |

I just listened to one podcast and those 2 guys were full of themselves and The Griz. I get it to a point but to the extreme they went was honestly ridiculous. I’m not saying Montana won’t win and maybe they will blow us out, but if we played each other 10 times on a neutral field I’m guessing it be 5-5 or 4-6 one way or another. I will say this will be the 3rd time I’ll be there as a fan (once as a player) and I’ve found their fans to be like ours. You’re very much welcome at their tailgate and they like to engage and talk football. So if my tone on first post made it sound like the entire fan base was that way I’ll correct myself. But that particular podcast was hard to listen to. I didn’t know you had 4 podcasts. For what it’s worth your boards posters are all saying a 20-30 point difference with an exception here and there. I don’t get the feel there’s one ounce of nervousness by your fans on this game. And hey, why not? You have the tradition and we don’t. But I’m hopeful we are building on that. I expect a game |

This will be a much better measuring stick for us than last week was. Limit self inflicted damage and we'll be there in the 4th quarter but we have to be able to run the ball and stop the run. We struggled in pass pro vs. KSU but a lot of our big plays can come off of play action where our OL can be more aggressive. It didn't help our cause to spot KSU 14 in the opening minutes of the game.
I see a close one in this game coming down to 1-2 big possessions in the 2nd half. We need to win at least one of these games at the beginning of the year vs. Top 5 programs. Getting this one would be huge.

Hello SD Fans. I hope many of you can make the trip West this weekend. If you do - wear your gear proudly all over town, and you won't have any issues getting invited to tailgates.
I can confirm many or most Griz fans think the Griz will cover the spread quite easily in this game. The primary reason for this is the Griz defense; most expect them to lead the FCS this year in many ways. Your RPO offense will gain some yards in the middle of the field, but the Griz D will tighten in the Red Zone. I really like your tailbacks, and I think your QB played below his potential last week.
I do think the Griz D-line will give the SD O-line some issues. The Griz run a 3-3-5 similar to K-State, and have All American caliber Linebackers who will be all over the field. Griz also have All American Safety and corner. Yes- the defense is very, very good.
The question mark for the Griz is and has been the O-line. Your D-line vs Griz O-line is a key thing to watch early. If your defense can get into the backfield - they have a chance to keep the game close. If not - the Griz have skill position players who can make them pay.
This Griz team is well coached, and honestly many/most think it is a national championship contender...
Again - hope you can make it to Mssoula - should be fun.
