Keep it simple. The Governors Cup. Fine. But we're keeping the plane Sorry, I couldn't resist (I'll delete this if it's too political for folks)

Just went over and peeked at the UND thread about the upcoming game. Check it out if you want a laugh. This is a school that hasn't won a single championship that I can recall in any sport since entering the Summit/MVFC. In fact, they've been bottom dwellers in several...and they're calling us delusional. Dunning-Kruger in action folks.

Please, don’t act like you guys wouldn’t take credit for that. When’s the last time you guys have won any sort of conference championship? I will hang up and listen.

No need to hang up, they are conveniently listed in Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Summit_League_championswe have accumulated 27 according to this, compared to zero for UND.

To be fair, there are plenty of delusional comments on all message boards across the country, so it shouldn't be a surprise to see weird stuff anywhere. Also to be fair, the only comments I saw referring to this board as delusional were because of the suggestions around a 5-6 team making the playoffs. I'm sure there is no "rule" around requiring a team to have a winning record, and my assumption is that is because no rule is, or should be, necessary. #1 most difficult strength of schedule or not, you don't make the playoffs by just hanging around in some games (USD, UND, or anyone). The S. Illinois win looks pretty darn good to me, but apart from that, what is there? Missouri St. would have been impressive at the beginning of the year, but not with how that team has turned out .... we are certainly feeling the disappointment of what that win could have meant as well. Stuck with the Bison for a while, but that didn't work out. Lost to the Griz (tough place to play, but even they have been taken down a few steps over the past month), smoked by Youngstown, beat handily by the bunnies. Apart from having a very tough schedule, I just don't see the justification that would ever warrant ANY 5-6 team to be considered for the playoffs (not just USD). Now, this post is not to advocate that UND is superior to USD or any of that garbage. I hate that type of senseless banter. Every season is different and this year is no different. If UND doesn't split our next 2, we shouldn't be in the playoffs either and we would be 6-5 with a tough SOS (not #1, but still tough). And lets be honest, if there is any team that will make it at 6-5, it will be UNI, because that's just how they roll. IF USD can find a way to beat UND on the road, and a UNI team that has continued to improve as the season goes on, USD to take it as a good sign of things to come. A 3 game win streak to end the season would be moving in the right direction as everyone looks forward to next fall, not as a delusional hope for a playoff team. 1 week at a time and as history dictates, I expect a competitive fun game this weekend. UND's offense has looked impressive this year, while our D has been suspect. I'm not going to hang my hat on our D's performance last weekend as it was against Indiana St. It was an improvement, but I'd like to see them perform against stiffer competition. I don't know enough about USD this year beyond your record and what I have read, but it sounds like the transfer QB has been playing well as of late. I'll take UND at home, but I wear green shaded glasses. I also know that while UND has a lot to play for, I've seen them drop the big games in the big moments plenty over the years. Go Hawks!

So rather than the senseless banter, and D$&% measuring with different titles, how about talking about the actual game?
How is the pass D and run D this year? Tommy has been able to find a pretty consistent passing game all season so far, which has opened up the run game quite a bit. Especially with our transfer RB from UNI, Hoosman.
Is USD more run heavy this year on O, or is that changing more with the new QB?

Don’t need to take anything, the conference was kind enough to give us credit, and a trophy. So generous. Did you guys win a Great West title even? When’s the last football conference championship for USD?

C'mon man! This is a little funny. You know as well as anyone that if USD had dominated the Spring season, you would be lined up to watch them raise the banner. It may have been a quirky year, but they still played the games they could. Did the Nat'l title not count that year? Super Bowl? World Series? It was a weird point in life for everyone, but to say there were accomplishments for programs, schools, players is a bit asinine. Especially when you know darn well, had USD won the league the school, town and fans would be celebrating is just the same. You want to hang your hat on the basketball success, I totally get it. USD has had some really good teams. USD has also had some competitive football teams, and certainly some great players, but lets not pretend the program has dominated like the xDSU's either (D1 or D2). Again, this is not a comparison to UND ... we have lacked in comparison to the xDSU's as well. Just not to the level of annual competitiveness I would like to see, but it is an uphill battle when those schools transitioned so well and have established themselves as FCS powerhouses. The Covid season argument is just a bit petty for me.
