Alaina Harper, a 6'3" forward from Wisconsin, is in the portal after one year at Grand Canyon. Notable given our need for size and Kayla's ties to Wisconsin. She averaged 5.1 ppg and 2.2 rpg in limited minutes at Grand Canyon as a freshman. Averaged 17.1 ppg, 12.1 rpg, and 2.0 bpg as a HS senior and was named Wisconsin post player of the year. Can't find her on Twitter so no idea if our coaches have shown interest. Just random off-season speculation. Do we even have a scholarship available currently? There are currently no scholarships available for 2023.

Still wish there was a way to improve at the post. Demers showed promise despite being young and foul prone at this point. I hope to see a big step forward from her, which would help immensely. Not sure what to expect from Mazurek post-injury but she has played a little and has size. Haydon didn't show much but I guess we will see. I don't mind playing a little small ball but I hate to be forced into it for extended stretches because we simply don't have the post players.

You can always find an extra one if you look hard enough....

I don't see a twitter account for her either, but her big sister Caitlyn does. She transferred from Cal Baptist to Purdue a year ago(was a teammate of NAA). No follows by our staff for Caitlin. No idea on Alaina.

(I know you are pretty much kidding) but I think for 2023 there would have to be a current player either jumping in the portal, or agreeing to take walk-on status... possible we don't know about something like that, of course....

That's what I was hinting at. There is no limit to "academic" scholarships for a superior student who might just happen be a basketball walk-on.

If there aren't any scholarships left then I believe some players on this team should not have a scholarship.

Well, I have no idea what coaches at this level do or don't do with awarding or taking away scholarships, but at any rate we aren't likely to know much about it, due to privacy and saving face for the student-athletes and coaches both. You aren't likely to see announcements of players being encouraged to move on, or having their scholarships pulled (Like Carcoana's was, I assume), or the reasons for any of that. We often find out just by seeing rosters change, or if you see it in a player's social media. Sports like MBB (13) and VB (12) are criminally limited in headcount scholarships. They have to use walk-ons to even field a viable team sometimes. That's where you see more gamesmanship with scholarships, because they have to.
Having said all of that, I doubt we see any attrition from this WBB team at this point. I think we might have already seen it by now (although they still have until May to declare). Be careful what you wish for. As it is, I'm pretty bullish on this lineup for 2023/24 (assuming Mazurek, Grange and Bergstrom are healthy, and Larkins doesn't transfer).

Maybe she'd like to come play with her sister. She will certainly have other opportunities, but it's an interesting thought.

She cant enter the portal as you can only do it once. She can apply for a transfer because of a coaching change or she would have to set out a year. I cant believe she would stay
