Just because someone was a good player, doesn't make them a good coaching hire. Kayla needs experienced help at this point, not some feel good names for the fans.

We need better recruiting what good is it to have a good coach when we don't have the players. Getting these one and done coaches who are only looking to move up to a better job. Ty was here told me what a great plan we have then leaves lets get someone who wants to be in vermillion

Dawn Plitzuweit has entered the chat.

I believe Dawn was here 6 years. She keep coaches and did great things. She was not one and done she build up the program. . She deserved to move up. Having a ex player she coached would be good

Having a ex player she coached would be good Yes she is a great coach who we benefited from greatly. She was also a “one and done” coach for WVU. Sorry but your attempt to vilify Coach Ty isn’t working for me. Hell, just look at Kayla as an example. She was only here for two seasons as an assistant, before she bolted for an assistant job at Wisconsin. Does that make her a “two and done” coach? No. When coaches have opportunities to move up, they have to make the best decisions they can for their families and careers. I’m sure Ty worked his ass off for the program while he was here, and that’s what we should expect. If he were moving laterally it would be different. I have no issue with his decision. I’d do the same.

OK lets find a coach who wants to be here. When Kayla left we were in great shape as a program and I am glad she came back . We are hitting the road recruiting and one coach short. Good for coach Ty but bring in a coach that can help Kayla build a program

Interesting development. Very experienced with time as a head coach and the associate head coach at State. Knows AJ well and a lot of recruiting connections in the region. Would seem like an excellent hire unless somebody knows something I don't.

In light of this development, I took a quick look at the Jackrabbit board. Didn't learn much, but confirmed that arrogance remains their default setting.

Looks like Jewett has been the AD for Brookings HS sports for the last two years, and was with the SDSU program the prior 9 years. Very experienced coach. According to Zimmer's 2021 article ( link) : 1993? ----- Augustana WBB ---------Asst Coach 1994-1997 Brandon Valley GBB ----- Head Coach1997-2000 Augustana WBB ---------Asst Coach 2001-2004-Franklin College WBB --- Head Coach2006 -2010 Southwest Minn St WBB Head Coach2012 - 2021 SDSU WBB--------------Asst Coach

Not to imply that I'm not ever shocked by anything...but this is at least a bit of a shocker to me.
But certainly an experienced coach in the region on a successful team.

In terms of day to day coaching, his old SDSU bio says he focused on post play and team defense. Team defense is an area where we could use some improvement.

Yeah, I just realized that this guy has only been away from the Jacks program for a couple of years, and he was lead recruiter. So he has been battling the Yotes for years. And he has had a major hand in recruiting most if not all of their current roster (since recruiting a kid for WBB starts basically in middle-school). Very surreal. Good get. In terms of experienced coach to help Kayla, I think this is a home-run.

Kudos to Kayla for making this hire.
