I have to wonder what factor it will be if we run similar offenses. How does that affect the scouting and preparation?
I have to think SDSU has the advantage in the trenches. Crowd can certainly help the home team.

RedditFCS says Yotes +14.5 I'd put money on that. This game will be a brawl. It always is in Vermillion.

We’ve seen much more overmatched teams play very close over the last decade when the game is in the dome.

To quote Mike Friedel, stats are for a$$holes. I don't care what the line is. It will be close and we will win this one.

I think stats are lots of fun, but you would be a fool to look at them in this one. Throw away any numbers you have on these teams. This here is a bona-fide hatred based rivalry where anything can happen. We all should be thankful we still have it given how the powers of college football are happily trading these types of rivalries for TV money.

This game will be won, plain and simple, on both lines of scrimmage and who can hold up in the trenches. Who can play Harder-Longer. SDSU's tailback Isaiah Davis is the best in the country, so we absolutely need to contain him and their run game, not stop it because that isn't happening. Their wildcard is that their QB is a very talented runner, so that will cause major issues because they do a terrific job of creating formations where the defense cannot account for the QB in the run game. We will have to go against the grain defensively to match numbers in the run game and do some things we haven't done on film up to this point. Not going to be able to sit in a 2 high coverage shell all day like we do 90% of the time. Another huge component will be holding up in the defensive backfield and not allowing multiple explosive throws off of their play-action game.
It will be really cool to see both OCs from the same offensive scheme tree come up with creative looks to spring guys open in the passing game off play-action. I'm confident we will be able to run the ball effectively with our stable of running backs and scheme. How effectively? To be honest, the creativity and play design of our offense will be a huge piece of the puzzle for us. I'm predicting whoever wins this one will have to outscore the other team. Crowd enthusiasm and energy level will be critical as always, our players will feed off that immensely.

Statistics for (5) games. 4 conference games + Lamar for USD and Montana State for SDSU
AVERAGE RUSHING YARDS USD 195.4 SDSU 222.6
AVERAGE PASSING YARDS USD 201.6 SDSU 195.2
TOTAL POINTS ALLOWED USD 66 SDSU 74
QB COMPLETION PERCENTAGE USD 75.82 SDSU 67.59
In the (5) games I selected I would say SDSU has had the tougher schedule overall. That being said we have beaten NDSU and YSU which I feel are 3 and 4 in the league.
What does all of this say? No clue. Statistical dead heat
Comes down to one word: HEART

I believe we have not yet trailed in a FCS game this year. Would be nice to keep that trend alive and get off to a hot start against the bunnies.

Eerily quiet on both boards. Why is that?
I’m confident the coyotes will be focused and play well.
Saturday is gonna be a fun day.
GO YOTES!!!

For whatever reason, the state game always feels like we're all putting the pads on. For those of us living in SD, the state game hits different. As a professional living and working in Sioux Falls, it's impossible to not associate with state fans in your day to day life - I still try, but there's just too damn many of them. This Saturday decides if we have to spend the next year getting talked down to by a bunch of mouth breathers that still see USD as the little brother. I am confident the Yotes are prepared and ready to play, but I'm also confident this is the best team state has ever had. I honestly don't know what to expect other than a dog fight and I've had butterflies in my stomach for two weeks about it. I can't speak for anyone else, but that's why I've been quiet about it.

I understand. I had a coach at USD say to me in our championship run that in the days of leading up to the game say little. And when you win say less.
I’m confident Saturday is going to be one whale of a game. I think about it quite a bit but honestly not nervous. Quiet calm

It's the most capable we've been in long time but their good is better than our good right now. We can win but we'll need to play our best and probably need a little good fortune. If I were betting on the game I would probably make the Jacks give at least 10 points. I just hope we play loose and don't buy into our own hype. We have a history of doing that. Game will be won or lost up front, but I'm concerned about our secondary being able to cover. Our back end zone has been less than stellar.
