(and no, I'm not asking for a response from any Jack-boys. In my opinion, if you don't show up before the game to wish us well, it's in poor taste to join the discussion afterwards.) 🙄 Why would any Jackrabbit or opposing fan want to wish the opposition well before? I wish for a hard fought, competitive game, no injuries to either team. So, I’ll make this my last post, good luck Coyotes. Looking forward to October 26th. So you've never seen an opposing fan wishing you well before a game on your board? We have. lots of times, actually. Even the occasional Bison or Hawk fan has done it, as well as a couple of your more level-headed Jack brethren. I've also seen fans show up after a Yote win to congratulate us. It's called sportsmanship. And no, I have not and will not post on your board. It's fine if you don't do that, but don't claim that you are doing anything other than gloating/trolling when you only seem to show up after a bunny win, or only when you have perceived an insult to Jack-hood that you feel the need to defend. Don't show up with a chip on your shoulder, talking down to us, and then expect a civil response. I think you already know that, though. It's the nature of trolls.

The Bison were down 1 point after 1Q, down two points at the Half, and are now tied 32-32 halfway through the 3rd Q. Heck of a game!

Well, I could not watch it anywhere, so I pulled up the live stats. It looked to be a very similar game to yesterday. NDSU got to within one point in the 4th quarter, but then went nearly five minutes without scoring. There was also a bad pass P Meyer steal for a layup (sound familiar?) and then another immediately (both passes by Evans) where the layup was missed. Anyway, it was a 12 or 14 point run and that was it.
Like the Coyotes, NDSU shot just over 30 percent, while the Jacks shot a bit under 45 percent. SDSU had committed just 6 fouls through three quarters, 10 in the game. NDSU had about double. NDSU’s top two (Heather and Elle) shot 11-36. They each had 18 shots.
It was right there in reach, both games, then quickly was not. NDSU flatlined at the 6 minute mark and the Coyotes at what, about two minutes?
Hopefully both will be in the WNIT. I think they each finished with 21 wins.

The teams will play at a home site but the semis and finals are in Indianapolis. Here’s the link: www.ncaa.com/championships/basketball-women/wbit

The teams will play at a home site but the semis and finals are in Indianapolis. Here’s the link: www.ncaa.com/championships/basketball-women/wbitSorry to interrupt, but: The NCAA's WBIT is a completely new thing, put in place like a wedge between the NCAA's and the WNIT (which still exists). It's 32 teams and the WNIT has shrunk this year from 64 back to 48 teams. If most of the invited teams to the WBIT accept, then NDSU will join (likely) ORU and USD in a slightly watered-down WNIT. The only auto-bids to the WBIT are conference regular season champs (if I'm reading it correctly), so NDSU doesn't get an auto-bid. They WOULD get an auto-bid to the WNIT, since their policy is to extend that bid to the highest-ranking team left that haven't already been picked up by the other two tournaments. Now, if some of the Power-5 teams decide they are too good for the WBIT, then NDSU might have a shot at an at-large bid there. I have no idea what the participation rate will be.

Back to the Summit League Tournament, how or why are the games on CBS Sports Channel? It is not like the vast majority have that channel. I do not. I could watch the semi-final only because someone posted a link I am guessing, since today I could not watch the women despite trying for about a half hour. Then last night, the semis were on Midco. But tonight, the men were also on CBSSN. Not that I trust the Argus to report anything accurately, but a quick review of the sports TV listings showed that the Summit League was about all that was on CBSSN. Everything else was on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FS1, or regular broadcast channels. Anyway, why the change?

Announced back in October, it was an agreement between the Summit League and CBS, related to creating the Summit League network. I don't think having the extra regular season games brought them a bigger profile, or whether it was a better financial agreement. thesummitleague.org/news/2023/10/17/mens-basketball-cbs-sports-summit-league-release-13-game-national-basketball-television-schedule.aspx

It DID create a lot more animosity from fans.

Good gawd, quit the whining. Ban me if you want, but good lord let it go. Why would you want B Meyer to leave? It won’t help the yotes win, regardless of what the yote team brings in/back. She’s not going to leave. Wouldn’t you rather they beat the Jacks with the best players. Idiotic mindset to wish for another team to come down a level so your own team is more competitive. Newsflash, the Jacks will be very good for years to come. The chance for the league was this year, down 5 players to injury. 2 invited players to just field a practice team. Regarding AJ, get a grip. Honestly poll any coach in the college game and they’ll be the first to tell you AJ is the consummate professional. Fortunately the yotes have similar in Kairus and Jewett. It’s not like he’s up and down the sideline screaming like Jory Collins. Watch the championship game tomorrow, you’ll see “hissy fits”. Every team gets calls at times, also deal with missed calls. Stop using the refs as an excuse. And I’d say this on a jackrabbit board just the same. Hopefully the Lady Yotes get an invite to a post season tourney and can do some damage. Also, find a way to get fans to the arena if they host. It’s always better when several teams are doing well and fanbases are engaged. This could be arranged.

I thought we cranked way too many 3’s. State does a great job every year of pounding it inside, playing a high low game, or inside out game. I swear every time we play them they’re shootiing 50% from the field, sprinkling in the 3’s, and hitting FT’s. It’s a great game plan. Then we got hot late to barely creep above 40%, and shot a ton more 3’s. We just settled for too many because they were easier. I can distinctly remember Jewett calling a TO to stop momentum, and the set play they came out and ran was a pick and pop for a Mazurek top of key 3. It was like, “that’s what you came up with in the huddle??” Just a few possessions make or break things sometimes.

We're also not that good at relying on the transition game either. We simply don't match up. I don't fault Jewett for the strategy of relying fairly heavily on the outside game. We had good looks, but just weren't as hot as hoped. This was where, unfortunately, we really needed Holmes.

Will be curious to watch a few things going forward in no particular order. One, what the USD post-season looks like and whether Holmes is a part of it. I harbor no illusions she will be, nor should we expect it. Family always comes first and I hope the Holmes family has felt the many prayers sent their way. Heartbreaking.
Two, what kind of momentum can we create with a post-season tourney appearance going into the off-season. If our ladies could string together 2-3 extra chances to play together, it would be a huge opportunity. Add in chances for players to see the ball go in while working on valuing each possession and limiting TOs, breaking presses, knowing when to call TO (more for our staff (I always thought Dawn was a master at knowing when to bail a player out)), and most importantly building some confidence, it's good stuff and it builds momentum and hunger heading into next year.
Three, as a continuation of the confidence factor, Arizona, Michigan, Creighton, UT Martin, and SDSUx3 (per Charlie's bracketology) were all teams our women played this year who are still dancing on the big stage. Hopefully our ladies take some solace knowing they squared up against some big dogs and held their own, and in the case of UT Martin, won in OT. Will be fun to see how these teams all fare.
Four, I hope to catch Iowa and Caitlin Clark on TV. She's amazing and has been a great ambassador for the women's game, while striking me as someone who cares more about her team and competing than the accolades or the spotlight. As a father of 4 young kids, 3 of them girls, she's a quality person and role model.
Five, have enjoyed watching Grace climb the all-time scoring and assist charts this season. She is in the company of some talented folks and if given the chance, will surpass a few big names in short order. Also, shout out to our SID folks. They do a great job and have really stepped up their game in the last several years with their Game Notes content. High-level, big-time work product there. If you don't read them before each contest, you're missing out.
Finally, tough go for the men and disappointed we didn't see more success for the women, but that's basketball. And life. The Coyote women's record was 21-12, the SDSU men were 22-12. No one in Brookings is feeling down about the season they've had so far. Instead, they're hopeful and optimistic. I feel that same way about our women and yes, our men too. One player can be the difference that makes a difference. That's what the off-season is for. Right now, the post season awaits the women and I wish them luck. Go make some noise.
