Ruthie is the big fish I think our roster is full I would start working on the 25 and 26 classes Maybe we can flip her sister from northern Colorado. I've had that thought but I'd look at that as a next year thing. There would really be no reason UNC would or should let her out of her letter of intent.

Here is Monahan's announcement. Looking through this thread and I noticed Monahan's post was listed as not found. I verified on her Twitter page that she has deleted her commitment post. She had connections with Kayla (coached her sister) and Liz Oswald (who was at EIU with her). So, we will see. But if she's changed her mind then maybe USD is not done adding from the portal.

That would be unfortunate if she changes her mind. I think we needed her kind of immediate impact. I love the thought of better defense for us next year but I’m going to be realistic and understand that coach E probably can’t get that corrected in one season. We are very suspect at several positions defensively. We have a lot of shooters coming up, but I’m more concerned with their defense. I was doing some looking into her coaching style. I believe she might coach more similar to the coach up north. I like that. Value possessions and be pesky as hell on defense.

That would be unfortunate but definitely not unexpected from a portal player. she's chasing the coach who recruited her, not necessarily the program here in Vermillion. I think we need to be prepared for a little turbulence over the next couple weeks until the dust settles a bit. We've got our core back and have added a major piece, I expect more of the same. Coach E has a good track record of enticing solid players to her program.

So with Hillman and RLG confirmed, and Monahan questionable as a transfer, looks like we might have two scholarships open...
So what need are we looking to fill?
1. an experienced forward/center to help transition our talented but inexperienced post room?
2. a versatile and athletic wing/forward to add size/ athleticism?
3. an elite ball-distributing and ball-control PG to cut down on turnovers?
4. a shut-down defender in any position?
right now our class distribution of scholarships for 2024/25 is:
Senior 3 Junior 2 Soph 2 Fresh 6

Kieffer was solid as a freshman, if she can develop into that point guard role we need we're going to be in great shape. Truth be told though we need to either add or develop all 4 of those things kiyoat!

Truth be told though we need to either add or develop all 4 of those things kiyoat! Yeah, I agree. Two things you can't teach are size/length and athleticism. You can improve shooting efficiency with repetition, but by college, kids tend to either be great shooters or they aren't. But defense... to me, that's mostly about effort and technique. Anyone can learn to play defense better (if you are willing), and great coaches spend a lot of time and energy teaching that. I was amazed how fast we became an elite defense between the 2017 and 2018 seasons under Coach P. If that's what you emphasize, ... that's what you get. JMO

The updated portal list (top of this thread)as of yesterday is not listing Natalie, despite the news coming out on May 1. That site has been late with updates recently. So that may or may not be noteworthy. It is now at least moderately interesting that Mazurek is still not listed on that site as in the portal. Again, doesn't mean she isn't.
