Also found out that Eighmey's listed base salary does not include her supplemental media income that, if all paid, would have taken her salary to $268.5k.

I have no illusions that she won’t move up the ladder at some point as well. Let’s hope for growth and success before that day comes! Go Yotes.

I am once again excited about the future of Coyote basketball. Now we wait and see what happens with the roster and coaching staff. Per this article on the Idaho Vandals website, 2 of Eighmey's assistant coaches will remain on staff at Idaho. I have no idea what to expect on our roster for next year. What are the transfer portal rules following a coaching change? Are there separate rules for returning players, new recruits and recent additions from the portal? I read someplace that players have 30 days after a coaching change to enter the portal, but I have no idea if that is accurate. If anyone on here has and idea what the rules are (kiyoat or 90yote??) please provide a summary.

I'm not sure what the rule is for the transfers that have already signed (two for USD, 4 with Idaho), and if there is any difference between those and the others that announced they were transferring to Idaho but haven't signed. Regarding the coaching staff, one of the two coaches staying with Idaho was the lead assistant. That seems to open the possibility of Jewett staying if both he and Eighmey are amenable to that. They have to know one another based on Eighmey's time at UNK. The other assistant was someone who Eighmey retained at Idaho.

Not sure if any of our players will leave. I guess if she says they dont fit not sure she would do that. She needs a coach or 2 from this area as South Dakota, minnesota and iowa is our base I am sure we lost Wisconsin. I hope she hires Mike. As far of moving up she did Idaho didn't pay much. This is a big jump for her. If we add a couple players from the portal and keep our new recruits we are going to look good for the future

The timing of this hire actually turned out pretty great, all things considered. One of our new transfers was actually committed to Eighmey at Kearney, so I'm sure she will be excited to play for her in Vermillion. Cossette, I believe, was more of a Coach Jewitt recruit. Gabby had a strong connection to Coach K through her sister, and being from WI, I could see her switching (unfortunately).
And then there's the buyout debacle with Idaho. What a fortunate turn of events for USD! We bank a buyout and don't have to pay one on the hiring end... nice job, AD!
I'm really excited for this hire! I thought she was a really good candidate two years ago, and is even better now. Love how well she was working the transfer portal from her new home in Idaho - imagine what she can do from an even higher-profile mid-major! I know some are looking at this as a stepping-stone type of hire, but Coach E literally grew up and has coached most of her career a short distance from Vermillion.
Home run. I'm hoping she retains Mike, but wouldn't fault her for wanting her own people, either.
BTW - Ruthie, the 6-3 recruit to ID is from Nebraska, and we now have two open scholarships...

"I am honored to accept the role as the head coach of the South Dakota women's basketball program!" said Eighmey. "There is a long history and tradition of success and excellence here and I couldn't be more excited to have the opportunity to continue building on that tradition. I have followed this program for many years and I've always been impressed by the support of the Coyote fan base. I am excited to get to work and see what we can build together!"

Yep, and my amateur analysis says that Loomis-Goltl transfered because of the coach. And if that's the case, that could potentially be good news for us.

Looking at Kearney's stat rankings in conference play over the last 4 years of Coach E's tenure:
Always the #1 Scoring Defense Almost always the lowest opponent FG% and 3P%
Almost always the best A/TO rate Always low turnover rates
Almost always the best # Defensive Rebounds Almost always the best # opponent rebounds
I would guess she runs a low-possession model with those stats. More similar to what Coach P was running than Coach K. Great ball handling, low turnovers, high assists, ... not a ton of blocks or steals, but just good fundamental defense that forces the opponent to hold onto the ball longer because they are not getting easy looks.
Playing like a Point Guard, which, coincidentally, both Coach P and Coach E were standout point guards in College.
Note: I only had time to look at 2020-2023, these stats may have been consistent for a longer time-frame, I just didn't look that far.
Also note: The MIAA is not a chump conference. Them and the Northern Sun are basically the two best D-II conferences. Lots of championships between the teams of the upper Midwest and Lower Midwest.

First chance for our new AD to make a big decision and it seems like he nailed it. I have a much better feeling now than I did two years ago. Love when we can poach sitting D1 coaches (even if she only had 1 year at Idaho).

If the rumors are true and Coach P initially highly recommended her the last time around then I’m very intrigued. Better late than never. Happy about the hire. A HC with actual HC experience!
