This is a pretty bad loss given the large halftime lead. I think we're really limited by our personnel, both in terms of physical ability and basketball IQ. I was hoping she could coach them up and get better play.
I don't know how you coach players to not do stupid stuff. At some point they either have it or they don't. This might be a complete rebuild to get what she wants. Could be a tough year unless our kids develop some grit on the defensive end.
In reality we have one reliable offensive option. Not sure if we have any reliable defenders, especially away from the perimeter.

You gotta win that one. Playing a mediocre team. At home. You’re 0-2 and should be 2-0. You’re doing whatever you want in the first half. Huge lead. Senior all-conference guard. That’s just inexcusable.

We need to get everyone on the floor more involved in the game. The box score has some interesting numbers; 1) Grace took 31 of the total team shots of 67 and scored 29 of the total points of 67 2) Addison Klosterbuer, presumably the best shooter on the team, only put up one shot in 13 minutes of playing time. 3) Adara Groman played 22 minutes and had all zero's in the box score. No points, no shots, no rebounds, no fouls, no assists, no turnovers, no blocks and no steals. Seems almost impossible. 4) Team only shot 10 free throws and only made 5.

The Larkins paradox.
She’s like the NCAA mid-major women’s Russ Westbrook.

If I’m being honest I don’t think we’d have won that game even under the last regime. We really are just so far behind our old teams and where we need to be. Without grace we’d be lucky to beat Mt Marty.

Yeah, that was awful. I think the whole SCSC saw it coming.
Again, their interior defense is impossibly bad due to a lack of personnel. This overwhelming disadvantage overrides everything else they try to do.
LMU spent the first half jacking threes (and missing) before they finally figured out to get it into their post and they just started attacking the rim. The Yotes do not have an answer for that. And then #7 shot out of her mind. Carrie went zone (until the last possession of regulation and overtime). Good teams will eventually figure out a zone, but that's not necessarily a criticism because I'm not sure Carrie has a choice. And LMU isn't very good.
I think that you can argue that if Demers and Mazurek were still here that they would be 3-0 and about as good as a year ago.
They need to develop Klosterbuer and Wilke to the point where you can envision them starting next year. Wilke has skill and some size, but she is not a rim protector. I think she played two possessions in the 2nd half, gave up two layups, and Carrie pulled her. I get that, but they need her on the floor more.
Markowski and Potts will destroy them on Saturday. Hopefully they can keep it within shouting distance for a while.

That Groman line is an all-timer. I'd venture a guess that nobody in USD history with a donut line has ever done so with more than 22 minutes.

Well with our 3rd coach in 4 years we need a rebuild losing Carson has hurt I heard we might be bringing one of our freshman out of her red shirt. It looks like no easy path forward unless we land a couple portal players . I like some players we are recruiting but might take a couple years or more . I am hoping we keep improving as the year goes on as we only played a few games.

My post after the game clearly conveyed my sence of frustration with the results of the second half. I'm sure the team has even more frustration.
Let me clear that will not give up on this team or coaches!! They will continue to work hard and learn!! We need to give LMU credit. Once they switched to the zone , they could see defensive improvement and hit some key shots at the end! They also were motivated by last year's OT loss to the Yotes!
All 3 losses have been in close games. Just need to keep improving and working! There will be better days!!
Go Yotes!!!

I have lost so many attempted posts that just disappear as I am typing on my phone. That includes a lengthy one on the game.
I was at the game. The offense looked horrible. Two guards just stood in the corners and rarely if ever touched the ball. That is why Adars had no line and Addyson had one shot. There is no movement. It was just get Grace the ball and have her drive. Sometimes have Carley drive. It worked until Grace stopped making the layups. And no one except Grace and Olivia attempt to get offensive rebounds. Out of 31 shots, Grace must have taken about 27 layups, in which I am including shots near the basket. Despite driving to the hoop that many times, she did not get fouled until her last layup attempt in regulation. And then she almost airballed her second free throw, which would have given us win. Anyway, the offense cannot expect to function three on five. There was no movement by the players in the corners. Very few screens were set. It was basically one on one isolation, but then LMU started double teaming. More later.

My guess is it would be Coons or Jusczak? I'm OK with that if they get at least some regular minutes. Looked like Cossette had a knee brace on last night, even when she wasn't dressed? Hopefully minor.

Yeah, they very clearly had a mismatch with Larkins (either being guarded on the perimeter by a bigger player or in the post when guarded by a small) and Carrie leaned into that. Forced LMU to play a 1-2-2 matchup zone in the 2nd half, and that caused some problems. I think the issue is they don't have a lot of playmakers, so Grace feels the need to create for herself or others, and that is going to result in some ugly possessions. And they don't have a post presence either. I understand what you're saying, but it's tough to turn down all those layups in the first half. But to your point, they weren't able to get it going against that zone and didn't have a lot of players who felt confident in scoring at the end.

Don't understand how a team can fall off the map so fast. All started with coach Kayla who put us in the hole and now it just gets deeper. The days of Chloe and Hannah and Liv are gone and I don't see them coming back.
