I wish the coaching staff would just say the quiet part out loud though. Maybe that’s what a couple of them need. Highly competitive people will find ways to prove the doubters wrong. Right now a majority of the team is doing the opposite, they’re proving both the coaching staff and general observer right that the coaches shouldn’t put much faith into them.

No maybe about it. They couldn't have come out and stated that they have limited faith in everyone any louder than they did. This. Always pay attention to what they do. That speaks loudly. At least to this point, it doesn't appear that Carrie will trust her inexperienced players until they prove something. But that's the catch-22, isn't it? I do think the depth needs to get experience and develop confidence. They need to get Kieffer, Klosterbuer, Wilke, and Mason to get about 25 a game between them. That certainly isn't going to happen soon. Confidence is the key for young players. They need to get to the point where when they come in they are looking for their shot. And that comes with having some success in games. Klosterbuer is a good example. In the first game, she hit two late threes. Big ones. She was hopping down the court, full of confidence. She then hit her first three against Air Force. But then she missed her last five in that game. Since then she is 1-9 and 0-6 from three. So since that first make in the second game, she's 1-14 and 0-11 from deep. I don't know if she can contain the dribble *at all*, but I know she can shoot it. She's not missing because she can't shoot...she's missing because her confidence is lower. She wasn't hunting her shot today. She eventually got some looks but she wasn't aggressive. And I get it. But they need her as a secondary scorer. Good to see Hempe have a couple good games. They need as much offense as they can get because they won't win games with defensive prowess. My hope is that Eighmey and the players will figure each other out and they will max out their output. But I'm not sure I see 10 D-1 wins out there with what I've seen so far.

We are really limited athletically. I’m talking speed, quickness, agility, and jumping. It’s a slippery slope deciding how to play this. If you go with offensive prowess, you give up on defensive ability. As a coach you decide where you’re going to hang your hat and I think we all knew that Coach Eighmey is a believer in defense. I’m personally from that school of logic too. I believe that’s why we see the girls playing that are playing. But I’ll refer back to my first sentence, we are simply limited to what we can do because of that sentence. We lack length and just not an overly athletic team. As fans we may need to be realistic about this year. Cheer them on and look for improvement.
