i had originally heard they wanted a coach in place before Christmas, but obviously they're working quicker than that. Which is good to see. At least they're getting out, going to candidates, instead of sitting and waiting for ones to come to them.

Who is on the interview list, that is what I would like to know. If there will be a new coach by the end of next week then there has to be interviews lined up.

It is entirely possible these interviews, especially the primary ones, are taking place in the locales of the interviewee or even in an airport conference room. If Sayler and Herbster are traveling and meeting with the first wave of applicants and targets, it is quite possible they won't be spotted around town.

I just heard the coaching search will take a little bit longer because of the extreme interest in Mike Sherman and his Texas ties from coaching at A&M. He has to be the next coach right, every other coach that has been canned has been put on this board...besides the Washington State coach. Why weren't we mentioning Mike Leach? ?

I thought I heard or read somewhere that this coaching search is going to be very much confidential in nature. I think the reason being that certain coaches don't want there names thrown out there as candidates than have to explain to their AD's why they are testing the waters. That makes alot of sense and might be a smart idea to give us as many worthy candidates as possible. I think Sayler has two ways he can go. Either he gets a coach that a good number of Coyote fans can relate to and get excited about or he simply gets "his guy". If "his guy"ends up being the one and it's someone that either has a questionable resume or isn't well known by most fans and insiders than he is going to naturally take more heat if it doesn't pan out. If I was in charge I would get the most football minds together I could get and simply get the best dam coach that our money can buy. Just do the interviews, take in the resumes and objectively take the best one.

FUNNY ;D Bill Byrne who fired Mike was the AD to Nebraka. He would come with good recommendations no doubt. ;D Seriously some one from Rice might be on the short list. Is this not where Sayler came from?

Ahhhh... speculation. You got to love it. Remember when Jerry Glanville was looking at going to Northern? Lets go with the run and shoot. Give up 40 but score 42.

Well, to be fair, in the case of Jerry Glanville, he withdrew his name for the Northern State job. He interviewed in Aberdeen, met with school officials and players, and was one of 4 finalists.
So that was a little beyond speculation.
Makes me wonder about Joe Glenn. Glenn is in his early 60s, and Glanville was 65-ish when he took the FCS job at Portland State.
Glenn's name has been circulating a lot about the search, from what certain people have told me. He's doing analysis for a WAC football game this weekend in Utah, so I wonder if David Sayler indeed went out to meet with him.

I think Glenn would be great. I would hope he would bring our next head coach with him in his coordinators. I'm guessing he will retire after this run. That would be a great transition to maintain recruiting.
Whoever we get, the coordinators and initial position coaches are going to be key. Over the last 4 years, its been Ed and a bunch of GA's, hence his departure. Going forward, I'd love to restock and reload, not rebuild.

I agree, it better be the head coaches call on who he wants standing beside him. We need legit coordinators again.
