Jeremy Hoeck from the P&D reports that Glenn will make $126,000. Good work by Jeremy nailing that last detail down.
That's a real bargain. Proves the fact that Glenn (who made $550k at Wyo) is true to his word that he's at USD to give something back to his alma mater. You have to like that.
For context, Stig makes just under $126k, Nagy makes $150k, AJ makes $114k, Boots makes $107k and Williams makes $96k.
That's a whole bunch of really good coaches at relatively bargain-basement salaries for D1.

Of course, he had two years paid on easy street after it ended which is common. I just hope we have sufficient budget to reach out for some good assts. I am troubled by reports that he is keeping Benschwarmer. My opinion is that someone under 30 with experience at but one school lacks the experience to be an O coordinator at a D1 program. You just haven't made enough mistakes yet to learn what you need to know. But, I hope it all works out.

I heard an interview with Glenn at halftime of the basketball game. He made it seems that USD really was making it tough or him to say "no" which is fine. He also said that they wanted a mentor type (whatever that means). Are we going to get a head coach that is here to win and put in place the best assistants possible or are we going to simply have Glenn in for a culture change. If we aren't bringing in Glenn for Glenn himself (but rather him as a mentor) than I think this whole thing could blow up in our faces. I don't see why Wes is on some kind of a fast track to be head coach. What has he exactly done but to be front and center of an offense that has done nothing but go downhill on his watch. The offense has not look good, not looked explosive anymore and not looked well organized at all. What am I missing about Beschorner that everyone else sees greatness in. Maybe there is something intangible about him but so far his results have not been that great. As a player, sure Wes was very good. As a coach I am not seeing it, at least not yet.

Sometimes, I suppose, programs just need a reset. I can see the logic in bringing in an experienced, enthusiastic guy like Glenn to set up the framework for somebody younger to come in and have success.
From where I sit in Brookings, Sayler did a really good job with this hire. Impressed with him and with Glenn.
I also think that USD pushing to enhance its program can only be good for both schools. At SDSU, we need to make some additions (facilities, two more assistants) and this just encourages our fans to get more involved.

Ahh, a rising tide lifts all boats. You're right, USD and SDSU will push each other. Make no mistake about it, I've heard Ed say on many occasions that this (college athletics) is an arms race.

Regarding Stig: No. He's an institution here. 21-11 in the MVFC since we joined. Led league in GPA and academic all-conference picks four straight years.
Plus, SDSU will be good next year. Something like 17 returning starters (incl. Sumner, Zenner, Kool & Rollins plus entire O-line) more favorable out-of-conference schedule.
Challenge: Like USD, we need more assistant coaches and generally a bigger football budget.
Back on topic: Glenn giving up money should get at least one more assistant or higher-level assistants in general.

Glenn is there to get more fan support and to increase donations for improved facilities. He's bringing more credibility to the football program. I think it's a good overall hire, but I could see some people being skeptical with his age and that it's publicly known he'll only be there for a short time (I've heard that he's promised 4 yrs).
From my perspective, he's there for a face of USD for donations and improvements. He'll help recruiting and the coaching staff with his connections, but not as much with the day-to-day football operations.

Donations and improvements won't come without a winning program. Don't kid yourself, Glenn's there to put a winner on the field. He's done it in the past and he'll do it again.

Agree on the donations. As to the rest, really, really hope so, but don't think it very likely that he has the fire in his belly to give the hours needed for recruiting, game films, and coaching. We will know soon how the recruiting works out, and I would love to be dead wrong.

We will know soon how the recruiting works out, and I would love to be dead wrong. I would say that in his early 60's he will have more energy than Meierkort. Ed may have been good in recruiting but never seemed to improve on coaching skills. His teams were often unprepared for games. He even admitted on multiple occassions to not being ready for what an opponent threw at them. Glenn has proven time and time again that he is a much better CEO of a football team than Meierkort ever was. They were/are both good guys and good ambassadors to a program but Glenn will give us the whole package including on field readiness. If you wanna talk results on the field there is no comparison between the two. Northern Colorado won two championships when the NCC was a full strength and very powerfull football conference. With a half full conference as far as elite teams Ed was only able to win one-third of a conference title. I would venture to say that Glenn has seasons with as many truley impressive road wins than Ed may have had in his whole career at USD. Whether Glenn is the right fit who knows, but USD football is definately better off today than we were a month ago if on field success is an important factor.
