I didn't look at this thread until today.
JackJD - with regard to your top ten figures, was the NDSU game from 2007 the year NDSU was undefeated and rated #1? If so, that played a large part in the crowd size. Second, while 5 or 6 of the top ten (not NDSU I might add) are from the last 3 years, 3 of the top 8 are still USD games. So it is not illogical to assume a USD SDSU matchup in today's D1 environment will easily be a top ten, if not top 5 crowd size.
Of course, I get flack for saying this. But many of you assume the most important sport at each school is football. In the last 30 years, overall it is no question men's basketball is the big dog on campus at both schools. Sorry my football friends, but it is true. If I recall, the only men's bb games that compare in crowd size to a State v U game were some of the Northern SDSU games back when Ryan Miller and Eric Kline played. Maybe one Augie game, but otherwise the top attended games at both schools have to be State U games. I don't care to go look it up, it's just obvious.
Now back to Air Force, can it get any tougher next year? Wisconsin and Air Force, we might as well play Alabama and Ohio St. It will be fun. But if we have pipe dreams of beating them like we did Minnesota, we better not bet the farm on it.
