Digging through the archives of the internet here is what I found: 1998 4792 1999 2951 2000 4275 2001 4410 2002 3944 2003 4341 2004 6382 2005 7597 2006 8054 2007 8321 2008 7645 2009 8117 2010 8352 2011 8071 2012 8868 2013 8095 2014 8409 2015 9028 Here is a graph illustrating the rise over the years (click it if you want to enlarge it): View AttachmentOf course some years had bigger outliers than others (a sellout D Days crowd in 1999 would skew that year's number far more than in the recent years) but there is a clear trend upwards. I believe that if we can field a successful team in the MVFC that demand will increase enough to necessitate the added capacity that is going to come with our renovations. So we averaged over 9,000 for football last year. Looks like more proof for my winning side of an argument I was having over the weekend. Was your argument that if the Yotes were a playoff team that 10k wouldn't be enough capacity? Because we are nearing that scenario. Time to put in more seating.

No kidding, we are an average-to-below average football program right now and we're at 90% capacity. What is going to happen when we are actually good? Which is closer to happening than most think.
The discussion stemmed around an event that the people I was with were saying was the most attended event in the history of the Dome, loudest the Dome has ever been, etc. I pointed out that almost every football game this season had better attendance numbers, that the average football attendance was greater, and that I can specifically remember one event, the end of the Southern Ill game, that was much louder, and I'm sure there were others during the football season as well. They were having none of my blasphemy. Great accomplishment but it is reaching mythical proportions now.

Interesting that the "big jump" in attendance happened in 04-06 but we went D-1 in 08. Was this just in anticipation of being Division 1, or was there another reason?

Ah, good old-fashioned WINNING.
It would be good to get back to that. No doubt we would create a new attendance standard with it.

The Meierkort heyday brought winning football to Vermillion and it wasn't only that but they played an exciting brand of football as well. How could anyone watch that passing game and Logan and not want to come back. It's too bad that they couldn't pack all that excitement in one suitcase to bring it all with them on the road. I still swear to the football gods that the 2005 team would have won the national title, and maybe with ease had all the games been in the Dakotadome. I think they would have beaten every D2 team in there as well as 90% of the D1AA/FCS teams as well. They would have probably beaten quite a few FBS teams as well. That team is still the best Coyote team I have ever seen.
Nielsen could very well be the next Meierkort but with the football knowledge and program discipline that Ed lacked towards the end of his tenure. Attendance could raise to about 11K per game if the dome could hold it and Nielsen gets this thing going.

My wife and I had the opportunity to take a tour of the new arena Saturday night. I do think it's going to blow many of you away...it certainly has me. The colors are gorgeous, bright, and spacious. I went to the corner of the arena where it would be the furthest point from half court and I am here to tell you even that seat is dang nice. The views are unbelievable. There isn't a bad seat in the whole place.
We also toured the new weight room, and holy cow, is it going to be something. I think if I recall correctly there is over 8000 square feet, and will have top of the line weights, machines, and total computerization of everyone's workouts. The only think I've seen the even remotely resembles it was when I toured the University of Oregons facilities when we played there 2 years ago.
The training room is outstanding. Bruce Fishback was almost giddy when he gave us the tour of the rooms. Simply amazing.
The locker rooms for all athletes are freaking great. So much thought and detail went into this.
You are going to live it Coyote fans. Get your season tickets ordered now so you get the best seats available ( although all are good )

Haven't been inside the new arena for about 2 months, but I agree with YFE, it is top notch. The worst seat in the new arena is still better than sitting at mid-court in the front row of the permanent bleachers in the Dome for basketball.

Volleyball announced their home opener and first event to be held in the arena, a match against UND on August 30.

Google came back to campus to do 360 degree shots of points of interest, which includes a tour of the new arena: www.usd.edu/360 . I think this is the best look at the new facility that I have seen.
