I’d say the dates basically work out for the better in 2020. I like having that late bye. And home opener always draws well. Why waste dome opener on a creampuff? Let’s use that crowd to fuel a conference victory. A couple weeks later you get a strong Ddays crowd. Dixie will lag because of pheasant opener. UNI can draw a crowd, then NDSU will draw a gate. Should be a good 1st year in new dome.

I just about crapped my pants when I saw Dixie State on the schedule. But, they are transitioning to D1 and going to be playing in the WAC. Does the WAC still have a football conference? No. Dixie State is joining the WAC for all sports, except football. They don't have a football conference lined up at all. You gotta think they're hoping for a Big Sky bid down the road.

I'm fine with it since we have Iowa State and Northern AZ for our other OOC games. Those two and the MVFC schedule is more than enough SOS. Agreed. I'll pretty much always accept a Power-5, Big Sky, FCS creampuff schedule.

So if they are in transition is that a D1 counter?

Yes, FCS teams count as soon as they start transitioning

I say we cancel the return trip after they've played up here. Return the favor from a few years back. Pretty sure it was Lamar that backed out of a return game in the Dome a few years back.

I definitely recall a game at Lamar when I was in college. Don't know if it was to be a home-and-home, but I'd guess they gave us something back if they did back out.

I thought I remember hearing that USD had a game scheduled with a school that was caught up in the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Lamer is on the Gulf Coast, could that have been the school and the year? That would be a pretty good reason. On another note, in a few years I see we open the season with two games on the road: at Missouri and at Montana. Good grief, nothing like giving yourself a mountain to climb in OOC games. I just don't understand the point of that.

I was on the team that went down to Lamar. Don't think I need to go back.... Was definitely a big difference from the Midwest.

I just don't understand the point of that. Katrina was like 5 years before that game. If we are going to have decent opponents visit Vermillion in the non-conference then this is going to happen. This year we open at Iowa State and Northern Arizona. The alternative would be to replace those Big Sky home-and-homes with cupcake guarantee games. I'd be all for it since the playoff committee doesn't value SOS.
