Gotta take this one if the Yotes want to show that they are serious about moving up in the Summit ranks.
0-2 at home would be a big hole that would probably already put the Yotes behind the 8 ball if they want to finish higher than about 7th in the league.

6-6 at the first media timeout. A bit sloppy out there so far.

The Yotes are looking pretty good right now. They are in the zone and holding IUPUI to outside shots which they are not hitting. Meanwhile Myles has a couple of threes and it's now 17-9 Yotes at the under 12 timeout.

7:54 to go in the first half
IUPUI 22 Yotes 24
IUPUI is on a 10-2 run after the Yotes were up 22-12 following a Boots three.

41-31 South Dakota at the under 4.
The Yotes have a nice shooting touch from outside tonight. IUPUI is not as good defensively as the Leathernecks were but the Yotes are playing well and deserve this lead.

49-33 Coyotes at half. Wow, very-very nice half of basketball. It's amazing in hoops how making a few shots not only becomes contagious but also allows the confidence level all over the court to rise. Even the rims have been very kind to USD tonight. A few double+ rims have gone in so far. Rowson seems to have a nice eye for the game. He combines athletisism with court sense. He is looking good. Myles has been nailing outside shots. The backcourt play has been good tonight which has kind of been a weakness over the last few years.
The defense has been solid enough where IUPUI is having to take fairly tough shots tonight. The key so far in this game I would say is just having the scoring touch from outside. Not necessarily three pointers but alot of those 10-15 footers have been going in.

If I am Boots I am saying to the team, lets come out very strong and increase the lead to 20+ to make it very difficult on the Jaguars to come back. The Jags probably have the scoring punch to get back in it but they are going to have to figure out a way to slow down the White and Red.

54-39 Yotes at the under 16 mark. The Coyotes had a 19 point lead trimmed to 15 but as of now still firmly in control.

65-46 at the 11:31 mark. The Coyotes are not taking the air out of the ball and are still playing well. They have cooled down but not alot. The continued aggressiveness has been a key to holding down the big lead. Lets take this one home Yotes.

6:45 to play 76-55. I think the Yotes have been just as impressive holding the lead than getting their in the first place. This has been a very complete game so far. What I have noticed is that the Yotes seem to have quick hands tonight but not fouling hands.

80-63 at the under 4
This one is ovah. Yotes will get the win and go to start 1-1.
Next few games
at Iowa at Ball State vs Ball State vs Moorehead State at Green Bay at Omaha at Kansas City
Hopefully the Yotes can get a split on the next Summit road trip to go to 2-2. That would be a pretty good start.

Final
Indiana-University-Purdue-University-Indianapolis 68 South Dakota 88
Just an excellent performance tonight. Where there's a will there's a way. A complete game from start to finish with no real sluggish moments in the game. The Yotes are learning what it takes and now I think they know. Now it's just going out and executing as often as they can. This game can carry their confidence a long ways.
All in all a pretty good weekend. One in not giving up despite falling short and another in the consistant persistance to just outwill and outplay IUPUI.
A must win and a nice one at that.

Preseason poll had Western Illinois 4 and IUPUI 5. If they were right (rarely are), we would be looking at definite upper half of the Summit League. This is going to be fun, this year and next!! J. Myles was great again, he's worth the price of admission... LETS GO 'YOTES!!

Myles had 26, Rowson 17, Gruis 16 tonight. Boss had a nice 14. 28-33 from the line. That is telling in the number of free throws shot and obviously in the nice percentage made. Teams that go to the line are going to be successfull way more often than not.
Boots post game comments
Boots happy with energy, activity on both O and D. Smaller lineup helped in being quicker. 42-27 was good on the boards. Good win for us. Gruis had his best game. Need to keep getting ball to him. Myles played good first half 8-8. Boots told him to take more jump shots instead of driving all the time. Matchup D was good and energetic tonight. Rebounded well out of it tonight.

Lets hope the men's team can keep it up and this is what they needed. Iupui is in trouble with young gone. This was a win that usd needed in this fashion. Myles is a stud and if usd can continue to play defense, it will be a very good team.
Now it's time to beat the hawks.
