Just watching the Midco pre-game with Brad Newitt and Tom Nieman. Tom, a former bunny, had a quote that made me chuckle that went a little something like "with all due respect to the other (one can just assume he meant USD here) programs in the area, this match-up has really become THE rivalry." Riiiight. I like your broad-casts and have enjoyed a beer or two with you in Vermillion before, but I will bet you another beer there are more people in attendance when the Coyotes come to town than there will be today.

Nieman must be taking tips from the head pom pom, Vandrovec.

USD has been around longer than SDSU so the Jacks will always be the younger sister. Young sister needs to try convince herself that she is better and always has to remind older brother when she is better at something. There is way more Coyote envy on the Jacks board than the opposite. That is just how it goes with the younger sister.

You might be buying a beer. I just read the write up on the game and it said there was a sold out crowd of 6063 today.

Today was a good day for jackrabbits with over 6000 in attendance.. I hope we can muster 6100 on Thursday for the yotes. If we do not get the numbers, I hope we can still bring a game for those who do come to Frost. I hope the yotes shot all their shots at Oakland earlier this week.

Not sure attendance is an accurate measuring stick on whether the NDSU rivalry is THE rivalry. USD has a lot more fans living closer to Brookings than NDSU. On the other hand, the USD game is on Thursday night so will that affect attendance? I went to the game at Frost but also recorded it for later review. I just turned on the recording and see Wolters making a similar comment, noting the NDSU rivalry is THE rivalry for the team. I think that's the way the current players view it. Some of us older guys may have different thoughts based on knowledge of the history. Anyway, that's what's fun about competition and rivalries generally. I hope Thursday's game sets a new-era (after seating changes in Frost) attendance record. Today official count was 6,063 attending.

I am completely ok with the Jacks considering the Bison the real rivalry. It will just make it easier for the Coyotes to crush the Jack's dreams at the Summit Tourney.

Wolter's performances in the Dome suggest otherwise of what he considers the game that gets him more rattled and a rivalry. Maybe it's just a way for him to shrug off decent at best performances against a team that has shown it is not that great defensively the last two years. Choke job much Wolters?

I am trying to figure out what a good performance against the yotes might be for Wolters. He was high scorer for the game at 26, had 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. He had a similar line against the bison with more rebounds. The Jackrabbits are pleased he shows up on a regular basis. Maybe Thursday Nate will put over 30 points in an effort to bring some game

JackJD, Good point as usual as to using attendance figures alone to judge what constitutes THE college basketball rivalry in the area. Clearly my fingers were typing faster than my brain was engaging. =) Anyway, my family and friends on both sides of the rivalry all agree that folks who believe that the "THE game" designation belongs to the State/Bizon game and not State/U are pretty much in denial. I believe my Jack friend said it best when he said, "Those are just holdovers who are still pissed you guys are D-1 now, a loss to USD still hurts way worse than a loss to NDSU any day of the week." The attendance figures for the game on Saturday were fantastic, but I will be surprised if that number isn't broken when the Yotes come to town.

Stats look great, but he started pretty bad.

I'm probably in the minority but I wasn't in school during any games. I will not deny that USD is a rival. It's an in state team and there's nothing you can do about that. That being said, I circled the NDSU game at Frost back in November and we had people from Des Moines, Twin Cities, and Omaha come in for the game. We actually had some people that were going to come in from Dickinson & Washington but couldn't. All were State fans. I actually had no idea the USD game was this Thursday until someone asked me if I was going last week. That's the truth. I think it will grow on me but State doesn't consider USD a threat (yet). They will be soon. But I sure as hell don't want to see USD in Sioux Falls. Your team definitely steps it up during that game.
