I agree that a football trophy would be a cool addition. How did trophies start in the days of yore? Someone went to the other campus and stole something? Is there anything of value that we could steal from their campus or would we have to make the donation?

I tried to read through this thread, ... But it has devolved into other discussion. ... Nobody cares who wins the statistical majority of all sports. Just doesn't move the needle. ...and drop the "all sports" crap. IMHO I have to admit that the all sports trophy doesn't interest me a lot either. Since it exists, I don't want to lose, but the desire not to lose is probably greater than the interest in winning. The wins took place in October, November, January, and February. And I assume there are more to come. The next chance is Monday, April 18th. Being awarded the trophy after the season is over really isn't another victory to the winner, but it is a bit of salt in the wounds of the loser. Since this is a smack thread, I do feel obligated to point out that USD currently trails 10 to 5 with 6 points left to be won in addition to the academic points. I believe that both schools have always maxed out on the academic points and I have no reason to believe that will not be true this year.

Guessing the dairy cows and research swine help pull up your academic points...?

The academic point set up is weird too. Its either you get 3 or you don't. Like you said wrj all 3 years both schools have received the 3 academic points. Why not make the academic points tiered for different grade point averages instead of an all or nothing.
As it sits now USD needs to win all 6 remaining events because both schools will certainly get the 3 academic points again.

Is there anything of value that we could steal from their campus or would we have to make the donation? I'm sure we would head to our branch campus and steal that elusive Triple Crown Sports girls basketball trophy. Second thought, we might wait to take the bronze statue of Amy that will undoubtly be erected outside the danger dome.

You're going to need a large truck if you're going to take all the SDSU trophies.

I thought those trophies were being taken to Fargo to rub them in the faces of the Bison faithful since they dared to bring their national title trophies into the state of South Dakota. You got them back already?

Is there anything of value that we could steal from their campus or would we have to make the donation? I don't think it's that hard. Just have to make it something that has some meaning between the two schools. Would add a little extra to the rivalry. As long as both schools teams and fanbases put some support behind it, it can really take off. Just look at the Dakota Marker. At first a lot of people scoffed at the idea of it, but it's become a big deal that has a lot of meaning for both teams. Those things add a little bit extra and adds to what makes rivalrys a lot of fun IMHO. They started one where I grew up between our rival school and ours. A massive chainsaw sculpture of an eagle. Now you see all over Facebook and people talking about how the kids need to "keep the eagle" or, get it back. Same thing with the Marker. Shoot over on AGS it's more commonly called the Marker Game instead of SDSU vs NDSU. I think a rivalry as long as the one between usd and SDSU should have something like that.

I've heard tales of this "Marker" you speak of but I thought it was just a legend since it's been such a long time since anybody in South Dakota has seen it.

What would the trophy be? Usually they have some sort of historical story behind them (little brown jug, Paul Bunyan's axe, ect). Any history buffs have some ideas.
