Just watched the Midco replay of this weeks Jackrabbit weekly sports show. Tom Niemann is an SDSU homer, but does a nice job. His sidekick, I believe the name is Hank McCall, a former football player for the Bunnies, is a real piece of work. When asked about the game tomorrow, he commented "make no mistake about it, our real rival is the team to the north of Brookings." He also said that for it to be a real rivalry game it needs to be competitive and to this point, the Kiotees have not shown they can compete with his beloved Bunnies. He repeatedly referred the Yotes as the Kiotees and not the Ki Yotes. If anybody in red needs a little more fuel for tomorrow, watching this should get you there. HATE STATE I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth... I certainly respect State's coaches and players but it's the arrogant D-bags like him I can't stomach.

All time record between the Yotes and Jacks is 50-49-6 in favor of the Yotes. It appears to have been competitive since the late 19th Century.
Also, hasn't NDSU beat the SDSU about 5-6 times in a row?
Either way, gonna be a tough day in Brookings Sunday, knowing they lost to both their real rival (USD) and their imaginary rival (NDSU) in the same season.

Their rivalry with NDSU is so intense that they didn't even recognize it until they were the only two D-1 schools remotely near each other. It's like if we said UND was our true rival a few years ago, not remotely accurate. I wish we could play up to their level though Second year in the Valley and we'll finish higher than them in the final standings with a win tomorrow. Really living up to that 2nd place Valley preseason pick and #6 FCS ranking.......how about they tell me more about their storied basketball program that totally wasn't a once in a lifetime fluke player doing everything for a couple years (who couldn't even win in Vermillion against our two worst teams in the last couple decades). For a program that they tout as being miles ahead of ours, it sure doesn't look like it, even with their several year head start. Suicide watch in Brookings once we have full control of athletics to go with academics.

Mick Garry reports that Bouma and Roberts are "game time" decisions. This has me really worried. If our running game is at its best we win this game, no question. Bouma would raise hell on that defense. Long season gets to you, that's three RBs down. Maybe we'll see Potter taking a few handoffs.

...When asked about the game tomorrow, he commented "make no mistake about it, our real rival is the team to the north of Brookings."... I have a hard time understanding why anyone would squawk about an SDSU fan or former player stating an opinion that NDSU is considered more of a rivalry than USD. (An opinion I share.) Why would you care? I have degrees from both SDSU and USD. I had a good experience at USD. But I'm an SDSU fan. I go to the football games in Fargo when SDSU plays the Bison but I'm skipping the one in Vermillion tomorrow. I don't have any great reason for that other than the games with NDSU hold more interest for me. Why the heck would anyone give a rip about that? (And I know, many USD fans don't give a rip about that.) Postscript: I'm sure there are SDSU fans who think USD is more of a rival than NDSU. There's always risk in judging an entire fan base on the opinion of one guy ... if there was any accuracy to doing that, then I'll pick Coyotefan and start judging.

Just looking forward to the USD FB team kicking the Jacks asses tomorrow.

Many adopt the stance as a slight to USD though, which is why some of us take issue with the whole thing. It makes sense that the NDSU game is higher interest right now, they're going for a third straight NC and are the only team you've played annually each of the last ten years. Thing is, I don't think any SDSU fans would have called that their big rival back in 2002 or so. With another decade I'm sure we'll go back to a state closer to where we were before, and NDSU will step out of the picture (perhaps to the FBS, though it'd be a mistake imo).

I seem to recall predicting a few weeks ago that the Bunnies playoff daydream would end in The Danger Dome. At this point on the eve of The Rivalry Game I continue to hold true to that vision.
Yotes put together their best game of the season winning going away 41 to 21.
South Dakota takes another step forward in becoming a perennial playoff contender while State College falls a little farther back toward annual irrelevance.
Oh how sweet that will be.
And yea, Hate State!
Go Coyotes, Really Go!!!!!!!!!!

With regard to the NDSU rival talk. They are rivals today, yes, sort of anyway. Usually to be considered a rival both teams need to win every now and then. But I never heard they were ever considered rivals until both went D1. Prior to move up, USD and Augie were the SDSU rivals. I saw plenty of SDSU v Augie games to attest to that. I also went to watch a few SDSU v NDSU mens BB games bad in D2 days and never ever thought NDSU was that big of a rival. IN football, State sucked in D2 days, so NDSU won every year - just like they did against USD. From 1980 to 2010 I would bet NDSU lost what - a total of 3 games to either USD or SDSU. That's not a rival.
Today they are made up D1 rivals, but NDSU owns that rivalry.
HATE STATE both of them!

Haven't decided if I'm going to watch this yet. Is it on Midco online?
Good luck tomorrow. This game worried me even before SDSU faltered this season and USD took a step forward. This will be a tough game.

10 hours until game time. The only thing that still remains on my mind is the RB situation, but I feel I've stressed that enough already. This town was incredibly active tonight, students partying extra hard and a lot of SD high school patrons, it felt like D Days out there tonight.

It is Game Day!
The Dome needs to be rocking all game today. Loud on all downs that the Jacks have the ball, not just third downs. Stand up, be loud, and be rowdy.
I want to see the USD OL and USD Defensive front take over this game and win those battles. This was an area of weakness last year and this would be a good game to demonstrate the vast improvements for those units.
This game has a lot of ways it could go - will be exciting.
Fight South Dakota!
