Per Matt Brown's Extra Point Newsletter (you have to subscribe to read the full newsletter), Stephen F Austin may leave the WAC, which would bring the WAC down to 9 conference members, of which only 4 sponsor football. If that happens he has been told that multiple WAC members will explore other conference membership options. His newsletter states "Specifically, I’ve been told to monitor the Summit League as a potential destination for the Utah-based institutions..." There are 3 Utah schools in the WAC: Utah Valley, Southern Utah & Utah Tech (formerly Dixie State). Southern Utah & Utah Tech both sponsor football. The equipment truck drivers will have to drive about 29 hours each direction between Cedar City and Youngstown. Easy solution...get rid of them as they don't fit the MFVC footprint at all. I've never understood why they're a member and not in some eastern league. Utah is a jaunt too but choosing between St George/Cedar City (Zion, Bryce anyone) or Youngstown is not really much of a contest if you're up for a road trip.

Number 1 I wanted a South Dakota guy. His experience up north and knows how to recruit the Midwest. He knows the girls and what it takes to win in the summit. I just hope he gets to stay on the staff. My mistake. We're on the same page as I was hoping for Jewett too. That said, I will support the new coach and also fervently hope she keeps Jewett.

Mike Jewett is a great guy. He did a great job for the Jackrabbits as associate head coach and the Brookings School District as the activities director. Most of the people that know Mike(& his family) will wish him the best wherever he lands. He has always worked well with young people in a positive direction. Mike's brief stint as AD also demonstrated his leadership in the community. I am not certain what he may have done in Vermillion to create animosity. Absolutely nothing, in fact just the opposite. Everything you say is right on the button. I've never heard a negative thing about him in Vermillion. Only naysayer I know of is one idiot poster on this message board who basically bashes everybody and everything (the spawn of coyote fan).

Administration, don't screw this up. Hire Jewett now. You know that's what the players want.

Look at Jay Elsen’s most recent tweets about him. I think we got a steal! This is the player I was hoping for. Great get!

I would have zero issue with Jewett as the head coach. But, realistically, what are the chances a 50-something male is the admin's choice for the job? Depends how the admin views it. Mike is probably more likely to stick around for longer if he has success compared to a younger coach. While it’s great to have coaches find success and move up it’s not necessarily something we can sustain long term. If he can coach and he wants to stay I don’t see why gender or age should even be a factor. But I agree I’m sure the school wants that wow factor which always seems to get us a coach for a few years and then they bolt. At this point in time this shouldn't even be a consideration. Hire the best person for the job. Jewett is in tune with the players, he's highly respected in the locker room, he's a proven recruiter and, as has been said, is more likely to stick around.

Regardless who ends up getting hired, I like the fact that we have two solid options right off the bat. The longer a coaching search happens, the more likely you start to see players and recruits getting uneasy and looking at other options..... especially in this time frame right before the portal deadline. Schemmel hired a search firm, so I wouldn't expect a resolution in the next week. A search firm is a waste of money when the best candidate is on campus already. Hire Jewett yesterday!

Is this team just totally adverse to the thought of recruiting high school talent? The goal seems to be to pick up everyone else's retreads. Hmmm...there are three high school players coming in next fall and only one (so far) portal transfer.

If she would happen to go I think we have a ready replacement everyone would be comfortable with.

Geno rarely, if ever, misses. And how can you NOT be a fan of UConn? Easily. Two words, twice. Notre Dame. Go Irish!

Not a big fan of UConn, but he's spot on about this.
