The Yotes are going to begin the season by hitting the ground running. The team plays 3 games in 3 days to start the season and will play their first 7 games in a 17 day span. They will get battle tested in a hurry. The Yotes will be in DeKalb, IL playing Wright State on Friday the 13th (oooo) then Illinois State on Saturday and Cal State Northridge on Sunday.
Wright State is out of the Horizon which seems to be very similar to the Summit but they finished 3-13 in the league so the Yotes have a chance to win their opener. The Yotes will need to gel their new players in a hurry to be able to pull out what appears to be a very winnable game.
Saturday will be much more difficult as they play Illinois State on their home court out of the Missouri Valley Conference. They finished 11-7 in a tough mid major conference so getting a win in that one will be a very tall order.
On Sunday another winnable game against Cal State Northridge out of the Big West Conference. The Coyotes defeated the Matadors out in California in a very tight game last December. They finished 4-12 in their conference a year ago so this is really looking like a winnable game for the Yotes. Game three in three days will test the Coyotes depth but hopefully by Sunday the Coyotes youth will have grown up just enough to be able to win the game.
This will be a very good tourney to start the season. The Yotes shouldn't be overwelmed in at least 2 of the games so a challenging but doable way to start Coach Smith's second season at USD.

Game is against Northern Illinois, not Illinois State.

Big oops on that one, sorry it's Northern Illinois. They are in the Mid-American conference and finished 8-10 in the MAC. Not quite the daunting task than if they were to play Illinois State at home. It will still be a tough game on the road but maybe a game that they will not be quite as big of an underdog.

Time to take a couple hours away from the hype of the big football game against the Jacks. The Yotes have an early start tomorrow Friday November 13th at 4:30PM Central for their opener against Wright State. The Yotes have a big chance to get a win in their opener with a solid performance.
Try to make time to catch the double header of Coyote basketball tomorrow. Men at 4:30, women at 6:30.

I can't wait. College basketball is my favorite to watch and it is finally here again. The men have a good chance in all three of these games if we can pick up where we left off last year.
It looks like the only viewing option is a paid service, so I'll be listening to the radio. Don't know who will have the call with the radio crew being in Vermillion this weekend.

Thoughts on who starts and whether any freshman redshirt?

I'm not sure who the starting five are, but I get the impression there will be no freshmen redshirting. The way Coach Smith has spoken about Jech, Hagedorn and even Borchers makes me believe all three will get minutes this year.

Based on my understanding, Hagedorn is the only one of these three being considered for a redshirt.

Starting 5 Projection:
Norris Kasperbauer Burnette Flack Sparks
I'll say Robertson Starts if Flack isnt 100%. Would also not be surprised to see Mcclelland in there, I just have no idea of where he sits in the rotation. Expecting DJ and Jech to be some of the first guys off the bench. I know, alot of bold, earth shattering predictions there....Pumped to see how the new faces perform this weekend.

Yotes are 6.5 point dog in this one. I like us to cover that.

Jech came in and made a couple free throws then nailed a three early. Didn't know we were bringing height that could hit from the perimeter!
Hagedorn has been brought into the game and is not redshirting this year.

32-30 Coyotes at the half. I was only able to join into the radio broadcast with a couple of minutes to go in the half. Hopefully the Yotes can pull away in the second half and leave the Raiders in their dust. I will be cheering against two Raiders teams this weekend. :-)

The Yotes stretched the lead out to 9 early in the 2nd half. Now Wright State has come back to get within 2 at 42-40.
