I want to clarify. I mean a possible at large big for a Summit League team but not necessarily the Coyotes. Of course hopefully that team would be the Coyotes because they would be a serious contender if the league ever would get an at large. I knew what you meant. I should have said both SD schools have been working on an at-large bid for the Summit with success on the court, and post-season success. Although most of the time it has been us on the outside looking in with regard to the tourney. If either school is highly ranked (would have to be top-40 IMO) at the end of the season but still gets shut out of an at-large bid, the league should be up-in-arms, IMO. Especially after our WNIT championship last year.

RPI Update after win over Denver:
60 USD 61 SDSU 66 ORU 93 IUPUI 116 West Ill 195 Omaha 327 NDSU 332 Ft Wayne 336 Denver
The Coyotes' and Jacks' RPI fell from the 40's to the 60's after winning games against the bottom of the League. Basically just because of SOS. The bottom schools need to do better in the non-conference in order to boost the league's profile.

Wow!!! That was a big drop after one SL loss and a win over 2 other SL teams (one of them being fairly decent)...

Wow!!! That was a big drop after one SL loss and a win over 2 other SL teams (one of them being fairly decent)... Yeah, that's the problem with having Denver, Ft Wayne, and NDSU do so poorly in the Non-con. Our RPI actually dropped after we BEAT Denver because of their sucky rating. When we LOSE to a 300-ranked team we really get a big hit. My eyes tell me NDSU is better than their record, but the RPI doesn't weight more recent games, or home games heavier (advanced metrics do, though).

RPI, media polls, coaches polls, sportscaster polls are sometimes fun to check and interesting but overall are not very accurate. Maybe in the future competitions will be done by computers instead of athletes but until then it's the old story "that's why they play the games".

Hey, sports are unpredictable, but that's why we like them. Doesn't mean that rankings, polls and metrics have no predictive value. The RPI is notoriously simple and inaccurate- but- the NCAA continues to use it, so that gives it value as it relates to at-large bids. Hopefully that might be relevant to a women's USD or SDSU team at the end of the season.

SDSU has a 50-point loss to Louisville on its record. Anybody that thinks a Summit League team is getting an at-large bid this year is in la-la land.

48 SDSU65 USD78 IUPUI 83 ORU 102 WIU 195 UNO 279 NDSU 318 IUFW 338 Denver RPI Update after win over IUPUI: 58 SDSU 68 USD79 ORU 90 IUPUI 122 WIU 161 UNO 273 NDSU 313 IPFW 334 Denver Again we lose ground on RPI by beating (handily) a good Summit League Team. Oh well. All we can do is keep winning, and hopefully make a run in the tourney.

RPI update after close win in Omaha:
41 SDSU 42 USD 88 IUPUI 107 ORU 119 WIU 163 UNO 267 NDSU 309 Denver 323 Ft Wayne
Back up near the top 40 is where we need to stay to have an outside shot at an at-large, IMO. Is it petty of me that I bristle at seeing State just one spot ahead of us? really?

RPI update after big win over FW:
48 SDSU 53 USD 82 IUPUI 106 ORU 117 WIU 157 UNO 281 NDSU 309 Denver 316 Ft Wayne
Once again, beating a low-RPI team draws us down. Not much more we can do but keep winning, and root for our non-conference opponents to keep winning (and beat State again)

RPI update (with conference standings)
34 SDSU----SDSU--(7-1)(16-4) 49 USD------USD---(6-1)(17-3) 80 IUPUI----WIU---(5-2)(15-5) 113 WUI----IUPUI--(4-3)(14-6) 115 ORU----ORU---(3-4)(11-9) 155 UNO----UNO---(3-4)(10-10) 278 NDSU---NDSU-(3-4)(5-15) 319 Denver-Denver(1-6)(4-16) 322 IPFW----IPFW--(0-7)(3-17)
Could the RPI, standings, and overall record align MORE? (switch USD/SDSU, obviously)

RPI and Standings update after lambasting the Bizon...
35 SDSU---USD---(7-1)(18-3) 50 USD----SDSU--(7-1)(16-4) 69 IUPUI--IUPUI--(5-3)(15-6) 121 WIU---WIU---(5-3)(15-6) 137 ORU---ORU---(3-5)(11-10) 177 UNO---UNO---(3-5)(10-11) 282 NDSU-NDSU--(3-5)(5-16) 294 Denv--Denv--(2-6)(5-16) 322 IPFW--IPFW--(1-7)(4-17)
Fort Wayne and Denver get wins, and the Coyotes restore the order. Next victim: the Leathernecks.
