Well, let's get this out of the way. From what I've read, the rabbits now have an elite defense to go with their super-elite offense and uber-elite player, so once again, the Yotes have no shot. Here are the details:
SDSU: 23-6; 11-1 SL; 14-0 at home, on a 6 game win streak (though their last loss was a curb-stomping); KenPom #82
Yotes: 24-6; 11-2 SL; 9-4 on the road, also on a 6 game win streak; KenPom #66
KenPom Prediction: Yotes 78 Rabbits 80
Interesting Stat: It has been talked about quite a bit that the rabbits D is much improved, and indeed, over the past 4 games they have given up only 277 points (69.3 points/gm). Even more interesting, they have played the 4 worst scoring teams in SL, and they collectively average 70.8 points/gm. So during this defensive run the rabbits are holding opponents' scoring to about what they average. Impressive.

Prediction: If Daum gets called for an offensive foul the rabbits don't have a prayer.

Everything went well for the Coyotes in Vermillion and I think this is one that plays out the complete opposite. The Jacks are going to be more ready to play than the Coyotes. The Jacks D will over achieve in front of their home crowd. The Jacks aren't this much better than the Coyotes but they will be on Thursday Night. I am going 85-68 Jacks.

Everything went right for USD down in Vermillion and SDSU has gotten better, but I’m not sold that SDSU can beat good teams when they aren’t shooting well. I don’t think they’re good enough defensively. If SDSU shoots well Thursday and throughout the Summit tourney, they should win.
They’ll need to play better defensively to win a couple grind out games in the tournament. Plus they don’t have much depth so it’ll be interesting to see if they can play 3 games in 4 days.

I think gopheryote brings up a good point about SDSU defense. They’ve held some bad teams to their average ppg. That was some of the talk before the first meeting. Could USD stop SDSU offense? But no one stopped to ask if SDSU defense could stop USD’s offense. It doesn’t mean it will play out that way again. SDSU didn’t shoot well in the first matchup. They were awful from the FT line, and that has nothing to do with defense. I suspect we could see a closer game Thursday.

Prediction: If Daum gets called for an offensive foul the rabbits don't have a prayer. Agree. The referees will be the deciding factor in who wins this game.

Let's just call a spade a spade. sdsu is a very good offensive team that simply outscores opponents most of the time. They are not a defensive juggernaut by any stretch of the imagination. I wouldn't even call them a balanced team. They are great on one side of the floor thats it. It just so happens, most of the time in the SL, thats good enough.
The Yotes are the more balanced team. They are deeper, and in my very biased opinion, they are the better team. That being said, if sdsu gets hot, you can be good defensively and they will still get their points. USD cannot play poorly on offense against them and win. If we aren't hitting shots, I don't see us winning in a grind it out style of game against the jacks.
I see a close game in brookings coming down to the last possession or 2, much like the SLT game last year.
I hope the Yotes win, but if they don't, that at least gives us a little more fuel to the fire for the rubber match in the SLT title game.

IDK if that dude will get called for a foul period at home in a game like this....or a travel......... I would be shocked if daum does not spend a lot more time in the post this game.

If they are really hot from 3 then we just aren't going to beat them. That's normally the case against whoever we would play, the difference is that State has a better chance of being really hot from 3 than most teams we have played. I really think it just comes down to that. If they are hot from out there then they will win. If they shoot average from there then it will be a close game, if they shoot poor from there then we will win. Certainly we don't just sit there and watch them shoot 3's hoping they miss, we will obviously make it as difficult as possible on them, but there is no stopping teams from getting 3's off. You can make it really difficult but sometimes teams just get really hot, and they are certainly capable of doing that.
I'm also really hoping we once again hear the phrase after the game "the refs let the players decide the game." That will really be to our advantage if that happens.
I assume Hurst will not be playing, is that correct?

Smith said Carlton might play, but wasn't optimistic. I'd guess it's tourney or bust.
