My wife and I are in Chicago and lucked out and ended up sitting next to a huge Loyola fan and his wife at a great restaurant tonight. I caught Mr. Loyola sneaking a peak on his cell phone a few times and he caught me doing the same for the USD game. Finally our wives started talking and he and I just watched the last 2 minutes of the Loyola game. We caught an uber back to the hotel in time to watch the final 2 minutes of regulation and all of the over-time frame on our computer. Freaking awesome! You could tell Chloe felt horrible about the bad pass that turned into a layup and wanted to make it right. Boy did she ever with that 3. She is clutch. We then watched the 4th quarter of the TCU and New Mexico game and there is no way we hosted if New Mexico won as they had a great crowd. Looking forward to Sunday! Go Yotes!

That was an amazing game. Just wow. We are in Florida and streamed it to the TV via Apple TV and watched “one hell of a game”. Two really good teams duking it out. What a freakin gutty performance. Holy Cow Love it. I streamed the game on my work phone at a bar in Raleigh, NC. Even got my bartender into the game.

And Lamb and Trimboli apparently had stomach flu last couple days. Lamb couldn’t keep much down. She just played the MJ flu game.

Just got back from Vermillion. WOW! The first quarter was brutal. I feel like they could have put the game away in the second quarter, but took their foot off the gas, for whatever reason.
Maybe they got over-confident, complacent or conservative. Maybe they under-estimated our ability to come back. They gave us an inch, and those girls took a yard.
Foul trouble became an issue for them, and slowly buried them. When we took the lead in the 3rd, that got in their heads and they started forcing shots, playing sloppy and fouling more.
Even with all that, they STILL should have won the game based on the play of their two co-MVP guards. We had no answer for #4's deep 3-PT shot, or #0's dribble-drive layups. Every time she scored I was in awe by how easy she made it look.
As the game wore on, we wore down their press, chipped away at their bigs with fouls, and at the very end we started contesting in the paint, and finally stopped #0 to end it.
Wow. They wanted it more, and out-roughed a team with clearly more size and athleticism. What a great win for this program. Total affirmation for everything they have worked for.

Have yourself a game Chloe Lamb!! The most impressive thing is that the lineup that got the Yotes back in it after MSU went up by 7 in the 2nd half was 3 sophomores and 2 freshmen. Talk about playing with poise. The crowd was awesome tonight. Get your tickets and see everyone on Sunday!

Duffy and Lamb are going to be a lot of fun to watch together for the next two and three seasons. They need to be a little bit more of the focal point offensively on a more regular basis. Right there in agreement with you. Dawn should start running more plays to these two. Duffy played like the best player in the court most of tonight, very impressed with these two.

Deep thoughts on the MSU game:
-I was surprised at how much their presses and traps bothered us in the first quarter, but we adjusted after that. Interesting stat: 10 turnover in the first quarter, 15 for the game -the Spartans were really not supposed to be a big 3 point shooting team, but they were 6 of 8 in the first quarter. They only hit 1 of 11 the rest of the way -#0 for MSU was good. I mean like really, really good. - the Yotes are usually automatic from the line and while 65 to 70% isn't terrible, it sure would be nice to be in the ridiculous 90% territory again -Kudos to Taylor Frederick on possibly her best game as a Coyote. Not a stat stuffer, but she did a yeoman's job on defense against some real trees. -It's been discussed how much Chloe Lamb has improved over the course of the year, but to think that last year at this time she's playing against the likes of Gettysburg and Highmore-Harrold and now she's draining clutch threes against Michigan State. How great is that? -Ciara Duffy...'nuff said -two more years of Duffy and Lamb together. We may have something here. -just a lot of heart and desire in these kids. Every player who stepped foot on the court laid in all on the line every possession. I really feel that there's a lot of synergy with this team and they all feed off each other and make each other better -I could go on but suffice to say tonight was a great night to be a Coyote. All of you ladies were awesome. It was so much fun. Now on to the Frogs.

That was an incredible experience. There is no way that anyone that was there is not hooked for the rest of the tourney. Two things I noticed. That crowd was as good as I have seen at the SCSC and that includes the games against the Jacks. That was a super charged environment that a game of tiddly winks would have been fun to watch. That Michigan State team is all of their #1 seed in this tournament and than some. They looked like a top 10 team in the country in the first half and then came back to earth as the Coyotes raised their game. Michigan State is the best team that has come into the new arena IMO. They aren't good because they are in the Big 10, they are good because they are just good. Illinois is in the Big 10 and they don't hold a candle to how good that Spartan's team is. That Illinois team we played last year we crush by 25 if we played them tonight.
The Coyotes are packing their bags if they don't get this one at home. That crowd willed the Coyotes to win. Now that is a legit 3,000 that were there tonight and the butts in the seats were appreciated 3000 times over by the team and by everyone else sitting in the red seats. If this game is in East Lansing we probably lose it by double digits and then some. Home court is a huge advantage.
We need to do this a little more often and more importantly get into the game like tonight. That was a flippin blast being there. Tonight is a great example of what an advantage the SCSC is if the people are there and properly motivated. It is a really easy night to wear the SD paw in red and white with pride. A real easy thing to do.

As far as Lamb, just incredible and just in the last couple of months she has gone from being a dang good piece to being an all conference type player. Obviously we know what we have in Duffy. As far as Frederick I cannot believe her turn around. She wasn't doing much right on the court early but now she comes in and is filling her role nicely. She was turning the ball over and missing 8 foot shots by 18 inches. Dawn is really-really good at player development. Did anyone notice Craig Smith clapping along at the game, especially towards the end. Now that the CSU thing has come and gone, he had to be thinking, damn this is a pretty nice place to be a coach at. No sense in looking anymore if I am him. He should put his car in park at the SCSC for at least one more year.

As Ciara said in the postgame gritty TEAM WIN by the Lady Yotes!! One example of that is that MSU had 5 players that played 20 minutes or more while the Coyotes had 8 and the Yotes bench outscored MSUs by 8 points!! Very impressive when you can out depth a Big 10 team! As other posters have said this team really works hard, plays great team ball and is fun to watch!!! GO LADY YOTES!!!

I really like a half-court trap ala MSU - wish MBB or WBB would put it in the tool box. It takes time to figure it out since few teams run it.

Just a few more reflections about the game after processing for a day. Prior to the game the song of choice was "Whatever it Takes" by Imagine Dragons and as far as I am concerned that can be the motto for the whole tournament for the Coyotes. I thought that was a very fitting song for what was to come. When Michigan State dominated the first quarter I think many were thinking the Coyotes would probably make a run but that the season may be coming to an end. What a gritty performance by the Coyotes but there was no way that a team even as good as the Spartans were gonna keep up that level of play. I credit them for playing a pretty darn good game considering everything that was working against them. I also credit the officiating for calling a fair game overall. They let them play most of the time but made the calls they really needed to make.
Dawn was spot on when she mentioned on the post game that the Coyotes at some point were going to figure out how to play against that team. They went from having no hope of going inside to having some relatively effective drives to the basket in the second half. One thing I noticed about the Coyotes which almost cost them the game is that they were almost too disciplined at times trying to get a good shot and it cost them bad shots or turnovers when they would pass on multiple good looks from outside. Against a team so stout inside there is nothing wrong with taking open threes.
It seems like the phrase "Big 10 talent" came up a few times in previewing the game or talking about it in retrospect. But how many times did we hear things such as. "Summit tenacity", "Summit lock down defense", "Summit intelligence". Good basketball players that have the feel for the game can over come a talent differential if they play as a unit and the Coyotes sure did that. The Coyotes IMO would have to be considered a top 10 ranked team in basketball IQ. As far as pride is there a more proud bunch than the Lady Yotes.
The good thing about Sunday against TCU is that it would be very unlikely if they were able to match the start that Michigan State came up with. The Coyotes will certainly face some adversity at some point but now they are battled tested against a good opponent and they will have confidence on Sunday regardless of how the game unfolds.
