Heck yes. If he wants it. Here’s a stretch - Kirk Hinrich? Lives in Sioux Falls.

I doubt Tibbetts leaves the NBA.

Nate would make a great coach but NBA and NCAA is very very different. He will have a chance to be the head guy in NBA in next 3 years. I would completely be shocked if he was interested.

sounds like a search firm will be hired.
On a side note scott cross is fired. I’m not a geography expert but UTArlington can’t be far from TCU. With TCU reaching tourney first time in 20 years wouldn’t be shocked if Miller is candidate there as well.

Arlington is in between Dallas and Fort Worth so UTA is 10 to 15 miles away from TCU at most. It's mainly a commuter school and doesn't receive much if any attention from the media in that area. I couldn't see Miller going there.

I would say that I'm warmer to Ryan Miller this time around due to his time at TCU, but I am left to wonder how much of their success can be attributed to Miller. Jamie Dixon had an incredibly successful run at Pitt. 72.7% winning percentage across 13 seasons and the program has completely fallen apart in his absence.
I'm interested to see what names arise in this search. Smith had zero ties to USD and South Dakota and worked out very well, could be another rising star out there interested in the job.

I will say this for every hire. The University needs to conduct an honest and open national search. If the candidate is not pre determined it tends to go better for getting the best coach possible. It seems like since USD went D1 that the coaches that have had the best success are ones that seemed to crop up as somewhat unknown coaches to the many fans. It also seems like those coaches did not have any prior USD ties either. I like the head coaching experience unless the candidate is kind of a can't miss assistant. It would seem as though that opinion is used by Herbster as well.

I could care less if a coach came from Saturn. I would want them if they gave the Coyotes the best chance to win. as far as Austin Hansen. I just don't know if I can live with a head coach that came from a particular state college. I could never ever go to another school and have anything to do with trying to defeat the Coyotes. that would be a conflict of interest and against every fiber in my body. I want to take something away from the Jacks that stings. Ryan Miller did that as a player and I wouldn't mind if he could do that in another capacity in red and white. I partially agree with your analogy but let me give you an instance in sports where it was very successful. I throw out the name DAN GABLE. One of the two greatest wrestlers in Iowa State folklore but went to Iowa and destroyed his alma mater. But it takes a strong personality to do it. I like Austin as a person but again don’t know a lick about his coaching or recruiting.

Austin Hansen got Nate Wolters to SDSU. May have saved Nagy’s job.

Why would USD want the fired UTA coach. He made 1 NCAA appearance in 12 years in the Sun Belt. He was 10-8 in the Sun Belt which is rated lower than the Summit. UTA is also lower than the Coyotes in RPI. No thanks. The Coyotes can do better than this.
