Santa Clara shot really well from the outside against Missouri State last night and were able to hang in the game. When they tried to get to bucket at the end of the 4th they struggled and that was a huge difference in the game. Hopefully the Coyotes can take advantage of the open looks they get on Monday and knock down some 3s. Might be a big night for Lamb if she can get rolling.

This is a HUGE game in terms of possible at large berth or seeding come NCAA tournament time. This team is very deserving of our support. Not only are they a really good basketball team, they are the classiest bunch of ladies you’ll ever see as a group. If it’s possible for you to make the game tonight I know they’d appreciate it. It would be a feather in their cap to knock off a Top 25 team. Last year we beat Iowa State in a similar point on our schedule.
Good luck ladies!!!!!!

Last year's game came down to the third quarter when the U got hot (11-12 FG) and Missouri State didn't. This could be the type of game where Allison's absence is felt, she had a monster all-around impact last year if I remember correctly. Duffy, Sjerven, A. Arens and Lamb all played/shot well last year and the team put 50 points up on 19-of-25 shooting from the floor in the second half last season. Don't think you can bank on that again but it does kind of feel like a shooter is due for a big night for the Yotes.

I am really looking forward to this game. It could go either way. As a Lady Bears fan a few things concern me. Our defense right now is giving up too many open looks from outside. Coach Mox is aware of this and it is a point of emphasis. Secondly, Mo. State so far has struggled against the zone defense Santa Clara gave us problems with their zone When Oregon State could not guard us in man to man they went to a zone and went on a 22-2 run. Against Drake your zone bothered them. I just can't imagine SD will try to guard Mo State man to man. If I were South Dakota I would be concerned about a few things, Can you compete on the boards and inside the paint against Mo. State's bigs. They have 4 bigs all with starting experience, Franklin attacks rebounds. She has long arms and is very active defensively and a super athlete who won the 6AArkansas shot put title 4 times. Gardner is just huge and cant be moved. Mo State will likely play man the entire game and it will be interesting whether they put Franklin or Calip on her. Coach Mox considers Calip one of the best defensive guards in the country and if she is tasked with defending a player and not helping off she can really limit a players shots.
Calip will attack the paint and Willard attacks off the dribble Their starters except for Willard are not long range shooters. But Mo State will play 5 players off the bench all who can shoot. Mo State is extremely physical and many teams just cant handle the physicality Mo state can be a good ball handling team or they sometimes get sloppy. Defensively they are very active and can force a lot of turnovers. For example Drake has a huge problem with turnovers when they play Mo State.
It seems to me both teams are relentless and will not give up. I have no idea what to expect except I think it will be a war and a good game. Lets enjoy the game.

One more note Mo State will run, run. run if they can. SD needs to be careful not to let them score layups off turnovers which they sometimes do.

I guess I’m not as concerned that we will get flustered against a team that likes to push the pace and force turnovers. Our girls are mostly all pretty good with ball control, and smart passes. Clemson bothered us quite a bit in that category, but that was a different level of athleticism.
Physicality shouldn’t be a big issue either. The thing that worries me more is if MSU truly is good at keeping us out of the paint offensively we will have to rely on the 3. We have some great shooters, but every team has off-shooting nights. I’d rather have balance offensively just in case.

South Dakota has two very talented bigs that I think will score some inside. Just won't be easy and second shots may be tough to come by. I think stopping Mo State's bigs from scoring and rebounding offensively could be more of an issue. South Dakota has a very talented team that will be tough for Mo State. Seems like you can not only shoot but take it to the rim South Dakota needs to stay out of foul trouble.

Not our best first half so far. This team is very good. The first game that I don’t sure that we are more talented such that we can mount a comeback, but here’s hoping.

Get some open 3s to fall and that would be a decent halftime lead.

I hope you’re right. Both teams certainly have enough fire power.

I don't know if you can really complain about knocking down some open 3s when a 29 percent shooter on the year is 4-for-4. Yotes would be getting blown out of the building if not for Arens. Lamb and McKeever need to quit worrying so much about the next shot they're going to get up and start looking for the next pass that might actually get the defense moving and set somebody else up.

I think it’s less about Lamb and Mckeevers shooting and more about the stat that kiyoat mentioned last week about their assist to turnover. Both are scorers and that’s okay that sometimes you don’t score. But neither gets anyone else open, which makes it tough.

That's my point. If you've got two little guards who are scorers and that is their first, second and third instinct it makes things tough sometimes. There are times where instead of putting the ball on the floor and their head down, an easy push ahead pass/kick out would be most beneficial. Duffy being ice cold isn't helping anybody out, either.

A 10 point deficit with 10 minutes to go in this one feels way bigger than normal.
