Plitzuweit’s comment was right on. They got shots they’ve been hitting. They just didn’t fall last night and with the margin of error they’ve been playing with for most of the year, that proved deadly.
At the same time, as poorly as they played, if Duffy literally makes one or two 3s or one or two around the rim, they might sneak out with another W.
That’s pretty impressive when you think about that opponent and how poorly the Coyotes actually played.
This will help them in the long run. They need to increase the number of easy buckets they get for each other. Open looks in transition, off kick outs, drop offs for bigs, etc. Easy baskets win basketball games.
And they’ve got to get more out of Sjerven. Particularly against good, big teams. She needs to stay out of foul trouble and her teammates need to find her. The goal should really be getting her four shots inside 5 feet a quarter.
But again, they were thoroughly outplayed just about everywhere ... their leading scorer missed at least a handful of shots she’s going to make most nights and you still miraculously had a chance to make it a game late.
Worse things have befallen basketball teams.

A crazy stat I also saw was the Yotes had 0 fast break points One play that I remember backs up what Coyoteglory and Cityleague have said about Lamb and McKeever looking for kickouts instead of always looking to score. Lamb had a steal in the game in the front-court, skillfully weaved through two or three MSU players in the back-court, kept her speed through the fast-break, drove straight to the basket, where a MSU big was waiting..... and turned the ball over. The MSU player stripped it, I believe. There were two Coyotes that had followed her fast break, and were at the wings, unguarded. We have to take those opportunities.

Seems pretty simple and it is. How many open looks that you want (no, Sjerven or Frederick “getting open” at 20 feet isn’t what you want) do you get versus how many you give up?
If you look at that game last night Mo State destroyed USD in the easy/open look game.

Then again, one of the biggest possessions of the game came at 58-51, home team with momentum, and Calip bounces in a lucky shot that was very well defended.
Sometimes it just isn’t your night.

isnt it nice the expectations that the fanbase now has for this program. I dont think anyone in attendance didnt strongly suspect or just flat out expect to beat each of the last 3 opponents at home. Games like last night just happen. Many of the loose balls and kind rims just went the way of the Tigers last night. Both teams exchanged road wins the last 2 years. MSU is a heck of a team. Not many teams can match the basketball IQ of the Yotes but MSU and Drake can do that.

A question for those peeps that know basketball stuff. Was our performance because we played poorly or Missouri State took it to us, or a combination? To me that just loves basketball, I thought two things dictated the outcome, but could be totally wrong. First, their point guard was quick and fast. Advantage them. Secondly, I thought they pushed us around fairly well and that disrupted our shooting?
Help me here. I’m not good at analyzing the round ball.
I’ll say this. I love our team. No quit...all grit. Win or lose. And classy as heck

My concern through the first handful of games is that we haven't really ever looked 'dominating'. Competition level doesn't account for all of that either, though it is hard to put my finger on it. Some combination of: half-step-slower, no sense of urgency, no easy baskets, less aggressive defensive style (with few steals/layups), more careless passes. Not that it is any of those in spades, but they all seem to be there in some form more than we have seen in the past.

Very physical in there, more so in the first half, and then we might have been anticipating contact in the second. Whatever the reason we shot poorly inside. I'd be curious to see a shot chart. And make no mistake, that was a very good team we played last night.

And also after the game.

I'm always impressed that we have our athletes do the post-game presser, win or lose. Some programs, especially P-6 ones let the coaches or players decline interviews after tough losses. I like the character it takes from our athletes to get up and discuss the game after a loss. Leadership skills. I also like how they help up opposing players quite a bit. Shows class

Positive takeaways from this game: Only 7 turnovers and forced 13. These girls hate losing. That's the best motivator to get better and keep working hard between games.

A top level recruit as point guard will really help south Dakota. Can you imagine how good you would have been this year if a player like drake's point guard had transferred to you instead of drake. On missing shots no doubt next time they might hit more shots. As a lady bear fan in our last dozen games against good opponents team after team has said we did not shoot well. My only point is that defense contributes to poor offensive performances a great offensive player is not typically going to score as much or shoot as well as usual against above average defense defense makes a difference good luck. I think you are better than you are giving yourself credit for. Top 25 probably
