I was looking at Western Illinois website and, on their website if you click the i con for tv on their schedule of games and it appears that they have free access to watch their games. I don't know the quality of the broadcast, but it appears that you can watch the game for free. My source was the Summit League website. Interesting that they don’t have the WIU links.

A little bit of movement in the standings, but the NET rankings stayed the same (same order). I think when the schedules are more balanced in a couple of weeks, the standings will look a lot more like the NET rankings. I think that the "best" version of USD is second-best in the conference, but the consistency just isn't there yet. We can clearly lose to anyone, as evidenced by the WIU loss. In the end I think we finish with a #3 or #4 seed, battling with the ND schools for the 2-4 spots. Maybe ORU gets into that mix. Finishing 5th would be a tough pill to swallow. If we can keep improving through the season on our defense and consistency, there is no reason we can't make a run at another championship game appearance IMHO.

Two Summit WBB games on ESPN/3/+ tonight:
Denver @ NDSU 7PM
Omaha @ UND 7PM
I think the ND teams win both of these easily, but Denver and Omaha are up in the standings right now...

Well, .... some separation forming in the standings below the top-2 of SDSU and NDSU. USD is still about where we thought we'd be, standings-wise, but the Frost blowout was a bit of a reality check. We are going to have to fight to stay in the upper-half of the standings. And I think we will. The Jacks' big jump in the NET is a reminder that revenge and spite are probably not the only reasons A.J. kept his starters in the game during a blowout. Margin of victory (in the form of "net-efficiency") is one of the only tools elite mid-majors have in the toolbox at this point in the season for improving their NET scores and improving their chances of an at-large and high seed. That was true for us last year, and is true for them this year. Of course, the NCAA has said that they will continue to tweak the formula each year to balance the different elements in the formula... but I'm sure margin of victory is still an important part of it regardless how they tinker.

Outside SDSU the league really is just bad. NDSU and UND are decent but I think that’s about where they belong. I knew we were taking a step back but I never thought we’d have a net among the ranks of the perennial cellar dwellers. I really hope the loss to SDSU fires this entire team up because we have work to do, ALOT of work to do.

Standings-wise the big story is ORU climbing the ranks, looking more like the team that took SDSU to the wire. The G-Eagles handed the Bison their second loss of the season (by a 22-point margin), and beat the Hawks by 7. The biggest upset was probably KC over UND 78-67. So parity (or chaos) is reigning in the Summit so far (below the Jacks). The Jacks' fell back three points in the NET for the crime of not beating bad teams by a wide enough margin (Omaha by 7, Denver by 10). I don't know if AJ was holding back, or if they actually struggled to pull away, but it would behoove them to destroy their opponents, as brutal as that sounds. ORU jumped UND in the NET, but not much else to report there. With 6 or 7 teams in the 200s of the NET, this conference is poorly ranked as a whole.

Standings-wise the story is that there are three separate ties involving seven of the ten teams. Lots of potential for movement. By not taking care of business at home vs the Tommies, the Yotes are now putting a top-3 finish in jeopardy. Could easily slide into 4th or 5th now.

Jacks are now 4.5 games ahead of 2nd, with 5 games left. That means they can clinch the regular season title with a win on Saturday. I wonder if that is the fastest anyone has ever clinched it? The rest of the seeds are still very much in play. I'm not tracking NET anymore. It isn't much relevant to anyone but SDSU.

So It looks like seeds 2-7 is the "muddle in the middle", or probably more accurately the four spots at seeds 4-7. ORU and NDSU have a 1.5-game lead on USD right now. So if we are looking at potential seeds for USD, I'd say I'd rather see us break into the 2-3 spots or drop to the 6-7 seed. 4 or 5 kinda sucks, as you would play the Jacks in the second round. I think we are likely to end up 4 or 5 though. I'm holding out hope for a late-season surge that puts us in the #3 spot. Maybe adding Pep to the active roster could be that catalyst we need.

The other thing that you didn't touch on is that this team isn't good enough to overlook anyone and while Omaha and Denver are improved, playing one of those two in the first round would surely be preferable to playing ORU or one of the ND teams. I know you know that too, but I just wanted to state it for the record. 🤣 Finishing 4-5 does not mean they play SDSU in the second round.

Last night: ORU falls at home to st Thomas and NDSU fell on the road to Omaha. Buckle up cause outside of the 1 seed we’ve got a wild race to the finish line shaping up.
