updated with all the portal roster movement... also updated class standings based on the new 2024-25 Roster. (surprised Eberwein listed as Sophomore) Also cleaned up the 2024 class with players committing to schools (see 2024 class thread). Looks like we don't currently have any juniors for next year. I assume there are still a couple of spots open for transfers, maybe three. I see Bostyn is still listed on the roster? Is he possibly staying? No idea. He was much later to declare than his teammates. I hope that is the case.

Interesting new follow for Coach K: (entered Portal April 11) Lily Hansford, 6'-2" Guard
Green Bay, WI '22 Oregon State '23, '24 twitter.com/LilyHansfordosubeavers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/lily-hansford/9883Played 13 min a game with 3 starts as a freshman, then 17 min a game with 1 start as a Soph. shot .453 3PT and .731 FT this year! - sharp-shooter stats from 2024 normalized to 40 minutes: stat | per 40 min | points | 11.9 | reb | 4.4 | fouls | 1.3 | assist | 1.8 | turnover | 1.0 | A/TO | 1.80 | block | 1.0 | steal | 0.4 | FG% | .443 | 3PT% | .453 | FT% | .731 |
great shooting numbers, everything else pretty average. Must remember this is mainly against P-5 level competition, too.

announcement tweet for Smith: x.com/theashtonsmith1/status/1779578933379473641ORU Roster: LINKTAMU Roster: LINKStats normalized to 40 minutes: stat | ORU per 40 min | points | 12.8 | rebounds | 7.3 | fouls | 7.8 | assists | 0 | turnovers | 2.3 | blocks | 1.6 | steals | 0 | FG% | .722 | 3P% | 0 | FT% | .538 |
so it's hard to judge a kid's stats when he is only averaging 6.4 minutes a game, but at first blush, I'd say it's good he was able to find the basket as much as he did and scoring efficiently inside the arc. The fouls and free-throw shooting are not stellar. It would have been nice to see an assist or steal, ... but it was a small sample size, too. Rebounding and blocks are what I would call average for his position.

Dom Izzo's "Hot Mic with Dom Izzo" recently interviewed Demers, and later Heaven Hamling (asked her about Evans in the portal). The full interviews are subscription only, but he puts out some teaser clips on twitter. Here are those tweeted clips, if anyone wants to watch: Demers (3 clips)x.com/HotMicWDAY/status/1775965136697585908x.com/HotMicWDAY/status/1775967202212032771x.com/HotMicWDAY/status/1775967727116832981Hamlingx.com/HotMicWDAY/status/1776303771888365581Nothing we haven't already heard, but Demers did mention that being close to home was a major factor (duh). Plus, she was a fan of Coach Bernhard (as a player) when she was a kid. Sounds like UND wasn't the only conference opponent reaching out to her in the portal (also duh). Nothing overly negative about the Staff, although you know Izzo would have liked for her to say something like that. So she handled herself well. For Hamling, she didn't throw Evans under the bus exactly, but said it was disappointing. TBH Hamling probably could have transferred and made a little NIL herself, but chose to stick around. I'd say that she was a big factor in NDSU's successful season, so she helped elevate the program. That's something to be proud of. The fans will remember her for a long time, which would not have been the case at a P5 program she played at for a year.

Elle Evans is in the portal! She would look great in Red. Somehow I doubt she is looking at USD. More likely a P-5 program where she can get to the tournament and get some bigger NIL money.

Yeah, I read it as the private schools just not having to disclose. There's no way schools like Notre Dame, Stanford and Baylor (or Creighton or Drake for that matter) are actually below Karius. Yeah, when you look at the list in order of salaries, all the privates are at the bottom; #67 to #86. Seems odd to even include them on a "top-86" list if you aren't going to rank them anyway? And why 86? There are private schools not included on this list. Just strange. Well, we can at least call it a "top 66" public schools. I'll assume Jory Collins is close to the top 66. He just got extended.

There are a lot of ways to compensate a coach, and I’m sure private universities are adept at providing non-salary “benefits” too.
Interesting that the private schools are ranked without disclosing the salaries though.

I didn't look at the Big East, as they are usually thought of as a "Power-6" team in basketball, but here are those numbers:
#2 $3,100,000 G Auriema UConn #49 $574,204 D Bruno ----DePaul #56 ---------- M Duffy -----Marquette* #70 ---------- J Flannery --Creighton #84 ---------- D Dillon -----Villanova
* just took the Tennessee job
So the Drake and Creighton coaches make less than the two SD coaches. A little less, anyway.

Here are the top 10 paid WBB mid-major coaches:
#46 $632,983 L Fortier --------Gonzaga (WCC) #60 $444,144 B Brooks -------Belmont (MVC) #61 $346,500 B Cunningham Mo State (MVC) #62 $339,500 A Johnston ----SDSU (Summit) #64 $265,000 K Haynie ------Cent Mich (MAC) #65 $255,120 K Karius -------USD (Summit) #66 $250,000 B Burke -------Buffalo (MAC) #79 -----------A Pohlman -----Drake (MVC) #80 -----------S Gardner -----Mercer (SoCon) #81 -----------C Berube ------Princeton (Ivy)
Seems about right. The top-2 Summit teams paying right in-line with the top-two MAC teams and the top-3 MVC teams. Gonzaga paying closer to a high-major level. There are probably a few consistently good mid-majors that are absent from this list. BYU comes to mind.
