Before our earlier message board went down after the win at Minnesota several of us had posted about bringing back the Sitting Bull Trophy with UND much like the XDSU's did with the Dakota Marker game. We need to make sure that happens for this game, name change or not. Time to get the tradition back and plenty of time to figure out how to do it by educating fans, getting the trophy ready, discussing in the media, in locker rooms, etc... Is the Sitting Bull trophy considered offensive? I truly don't know. I guess anything UND with a native American flair is probably touchy right now? Only in North Dakota, so I think were good.

The Storm are technically not "The Pros", but I thought it warranted posting anyway... Figured there may be a few Storm fans on this board... If you get paid to play you are a "Pro".

Trey Dickerson's Letter to USD
Thanks To USD April 11, 2017 Trey Dickers on
To the University of South Dakota, thank you very much. I am so thankful to have met so many incredible people here. Two years ago, I didn't expect to be in the position I'm in today, and that's because of this program and University. They've helped me grow as a person and a player, and for that I'll be forever grateful. To all the loyal Coyote fans, you guys were great. Every game you supported us and that's what helped us get to winning a title. In fact, probably my favorite moment was winning that regular season title at IUPU and like I said, it couldn't have been made possible without you. One of the most important things to me is doing things the right way and that's what the Coyote fans, along with our incredible coaching staff and team did. USD will always have a special place in my heart because of what they taught me. I approach things more seriously and I'm more patient than I've ever been, and that's because of USD. South Dakota's program is all about bringing in quality, high-character guys, and that's what separates it from other schools. Obviously, a few days ago I announced I'd be graduate transferring to a new school. I don't know where it will be yet, but I am extremely thankful that I had the opportunity to play a such great schools in Iowa and South Dakota. They've both welcomed me with open arms and given me success at every turn. Now, I'm ready for a new challenge and my choice won't be simple. It's going to take time to figure out where I want to go but I know that I want to play on a team that gives me a big role and has a chance at an NCAA tournament. My teammates and coaching staff were s ad to see me go but ultimately, they understood that I was moving on and supported me. I just want to thank everyone for the positive words and continual support along the way. Not everyone gets the chances and opportunities I've had and I'm really appreciative for the kind words and genuine support from all my teammates, fans, friends and more. Sincerely, Trey Dickerson Tags: dickerson trey south dakota

Dear Coyote Football Alumni Spring Practice is drawing to a close with one week remaining prior to our Spring Game on April 21st. We are excited to announce that MIDCO Sports will be televising our Spring Game live that night. This will be the first live presentation of a Spring Game that MIDCO has done. Our game will feature two drafted teams competing against each other and it should provide for some good competition and will be a great way to close a month’s worth of work. We have made much progress to date with our experienced players showing leadership and younger players coming along rapidly. On offense our two QB’s, Chris Streveler and Austin Simmons have looked good and both possess the ability to run and throw the football. Redshirt freshmen Ethan Falaniko and Ben Klett have been impressive and will provide good depth behind a bigger and faster Michael Fredrick at running back. Our receiver group has shown improvement as well with freshmen Dakarai Allen and Randy Baker having a strong Spring to go along with seniors Brandt Van Roekel, Riley Donovan, Alonge Brooks and junior Shamar Jackson. Seniors Aaron Ramsey and Josh Hale have looked good at TE. The offensive line is definitely showing improvement and transfer Cody Jennings along with red-shirt freshmen Mason Scheidigger have proven that they will be in the mix for playing time come fall. Defensively, we are being led by experience in the secondary with CB’s Danny Rambo and Adam Harris looking very good. At safety, returning starters Doug Lewis and Andrew Gray have been challenged by a group of contenders. Another area of depth is at defensive end where freshmen Kameron Cline, who played a lot in 2016, has looked good along with sophomore Darin Greenfield, and junior Spencer Hopkins. Senior Jake Leohr is also back and practicing but will be held out of the Spring Game as he is recovering from off-season surgery. Red-shirt freshmen Nick Kramer, Michelby Davis and Jake Richardson, could figure into this group as well based their continued progress this Spring. At linebacker, senior Jim Litrenta has had a good spring after finishing the 2016 season strong. Alex Coker and Alex Gray have shown signs of improvement and former QB Brian Woodward has been a pleasant surprise in this group. Freshmen Jake Matthew missed the entire spring due to injury and while senior John Wessel has been back practicing he will also be held out of the Spring Game. Thanks to all of you who attended the Calling All Coyotes Dinner and Auction last Friday night. It was a tremendous night and we raised over $360,000 for Coyote athletics. Thanks for all of your support and I look forward to the seeing you at the Spring game on the 21st. Fight South Dakota, Bob Nielson Head Football Coach University of South Dakota

He is going to be a sr, so if he transfers it would have to be DII or lower.

I Don't know if anyone else gets these, so I thought I would share.
Dear Coyote Football Alumni Spring Practice is ready to begin and over 85 Coyotes will hit the field for the first of 15 practice days on the afternoon of March 18th in Sioux Falls at the Sanford Fieldhouse. This practice will be held in conjunction with our high school coach’s clinic held that morning at the Ramkota Hotel in Sioux Falls. Our guys have just completed a solid eight week training cycle with several all-time strength records being broken. Congratulations to the following student athletes: seniors Taylor Lambert and Josh Hale and freshmen Conner Thiele and Michael Girres who became our first four “Iron Yotes” by squatting 525 pounds, bench pressing 310 pounds and cleaning 300 pounds all in the same testing period just before spring break. We recently secured several future scheduling opportunities for our program that include playing Big Twelve conference members Kansas State, Oklahoma, Iowa State and Kansas from 2018 through 2021. While these games will be tremendous challenges they are great ways to showcase our football program on a national stage. Our Spring Game will be Friday night April 21st and we will hold a special tailgate for parents, Howling Pack members and former players. The tailgate will include food and have a $5.00 charge. If you are interested in attending contact Director of Football Operations, David Milke at david.milke@usd.edu. On a personal note, I am recovering from hip surgery and while I will be a bit limited during spring practice I should be cleared for return to full activity in time to hit the road recruiting in May. Thanks for all of your support and go Yotes!! Fight South Dakota, Bob Nielson Head Football Coach University of South Dakota (605) 658-5558

Ok, so if a transfer were to pick USD, does that scholarship count separate from the new recruits? I know there is a limit on new recruits and they are almost "out" of spots. I wasn't aware there was a rule on how many new players you could bring in. I always thought you were only limited by the number of scholarships you had available and the number of players you can bring in to fall camp. I know when I was playing, some of the walk-on guys couldn't report until after the semester started. During fall camp I believe the limit of participants is 105 players, that is the scholarship players plus the preferred walk-ons. The other walk-ons can join the team when school starts.

He wasn't listed on the depth chart in the game notes for this week. I am assuming that he will be out.

Wessel hurt his shoulder after about 3 plays at UND and is out for the year. Trying to get a Medical Redshirt. It shouldn't be a problem because he has not redshirted yet.

I think Tyler sat out his first 2 years and played the last three.
