That was a huge win. Really nice to see Umude take over the game down the stretch like that and great to see them finish out strong. Omaha has a good team. The Summit League tourney is going to be crazy wild come March. Looking at it from an early January perspective, I don't know if anyone will be the favorite going in.

Kind of a sloppy first quarter, but the ship was quickly righted in the second and third. I also thought the bench did a nice job finishing off the game as well. Hempe sure seems like a three point threat and Sankey looked good again. Obviously the more playing time they get the better it is for the future. I think there's a lot of talent just waiting their turn.

I'll take the win, but I'm really unimpressed. It's hard to complain about an 80 point performance, but how we couldn't put Denver away on defense is beyond me. We're are not ready to play the states or ORU right now. Really hard to put a finger on exactly what's wrong right now. There are flashes of the team we saw in the first few weeks of the season and then everybody will disappear for minutes at a time. There were multiple opportunities to bury Denver today, but they were always able to creep back in. Looking at the games since UNC the rebounding has been really awful, especially on the offensive glass and the assist to field goal ratio is very poor as well. Defense has not been all that stellar either. A lot of it seems to be effort thing and I would think this senior dominated crew would want to go out with a holler. The last few minutes of this game were really ugly and I wonder if it's because the starters legs were gone. The bench played only 36 minutes total and chipped in 5 points. I would think we'll need more contributions from them in the future, although in their defense it's tough to come in for a minute or two once a half and get into any kind of rhythm. As been said, a win is a win so I guess that's at least a step in the right direction, but if the goals that were anticipated before the season began and seemed to be obtainable early on are to be realized they need to start playing up to their potential.

The 'Yotes were an absolute machine today.

Not really, no. Kunzer's got eight assists this season and she's just not enough of an offensive threat to be that player for you right now. Duffy's your Doncic/LeBron this season for better or worse. She's going to create most of the open looks for other players. Next year, they'll start Lamb, Arens and Sjerven for sure, and then I'd guess Korngable and Hempe. Lamb, Korngable and Kunzer will have to step up their facilitation a bit ... but I wouldn't be all that surprised to see Hempe end up being the team's main facilitator even as soon as next season. I will be surprised if the freshman Maddie Krull isn't starting next year. Excellent defender and a pass-first scorer. I agree with your Krull promo whole heartedly. She is a dynamic, true point guard.

I don't know what's happened to our shooting. At the beginning of the year it was the strength of the team.

I don't know that I'd ever predict a blowout win on the road this year except maybe one or two for our women's team. The men's conference standings especially could be a giant jumble at season's end and no one really should be surprised by the outcome of any game. Four victories on this trip would be an great way to start out the conference. It is nice to get these two particular road games under the belt when school isn't in session so the players don't have to miss class and deal with that additional stress.

For some reason, Umude was really struggling today. It happens sometimes...hope it doesn't happen again. We lost this game in the first couple minutes of the second half when UMKC outscored us 9 to 0. First four possessions we managed only one shot and had three bad turnovers, while the 'Roos converted on four of five possessions. It was an extremely physical game and we didn't seem to adjust to how much the refs were letting them play in the paint. We are simply going to have to get more physical if that's the way it's going to be called. On a positive note though, about halfway through the second half, Hagedorn got smoked on a shot attempt inside that wasn't whistled and for some reason it seemed to really piss him, and the rest of the team, off. From there on out we matched, and even surpassed their aggressiveness and it brought us all the way back. Unfortunately, UMKC hit four of their last five three point attempts, including the game winning bomb by the guy who hadn't scored the entire game. Nice comeback, but shit happens when you dig yourself that deep of a hole. I think Simpson is supposed to be back for conference.

The thing that impressed me the most about this game was how few turnovers we had. Doesn't USC lead the nation in forcing turnovers and turnover margin? The ladies did an excellent job of protecting the basketball against a very long and extremely athletic team that usually thrives on creating chaos. If we could have competed a bit better on the boards this would have been a very tight game, but again, I think they're one of the best, if not the best, rebounding teams in the nation. After we got over some first half yips and settled down, we played right with them. Win, lose or draw, all a game like this can do is raise our level of play.

I thought I heard somewhere that it was, but I'm far from sure on that. It would be awesome if USC came here for a game though. I'm always up for a road trip, but SC to SD is not an easy trip. When I went to SF for the Regional in '16, I flew from Columbia to Omaha and rented a car. I could have flown into Mpls, also, but the fares were higher. Nothing quite like a trip to the northern Great Plains in the middle of December. Hopefully we could keep it above zero for you, but no guarantees.

Do you guys know if this is a home and home? I was curious if the Gamecocks were playing in Vermillion next season. I thought I heard somewhere that it was, but I'm far from sure on that. It would be awesome if USC came here for a game though.

Give them credit, Northern Colorado is a good team, but we sure weren't very good tonight in much of anything. Regroup, move on, nothing to see here.

#12 looks like El Debarge with that moustache and Jerry curl. That's the name I was trying to think of. Great call!

Made the mistake of going over to the Bunny Board (it's always a mistake to venture there). Predictably, there was a thread over there about the LBJ, in the smack section of course. Jacks fans don't have a clue about it and think we're whining about a retired trophy. Here's the deal, many of us Coyote fans forgot about it too. We didn't bring it up, Stig did, and he did it on regional television even commenting about how he continued to engrave scores on it. If you're engraving scores on the trophy it's still active. Your own head coach brought it up and brought it back into play, now it's time to return it. You lost. How many points did you lose off your IQ?

For some reason Warren Nolan sure doesn't seem to like either our men's or women's team.
