Nothing wrong with it at all, but he did play more games for USD and is a USD Grad...just sayin'. Be interesting to see in a few years where he's remembered and appreciated more. He was a lock to be Final Four MVP if Tech would have won the national championship. They've never accomplished anything in basketball so he is probably a huge deal in that fanbase. Contrast that to here where I'm sure there are people who still resent him for leaving, and likely more who would resent him if he didn't find immense success elsewhere. I disagree. I think in 10 years ask a Tech fan about Mooney and you'll get a "Who? Oh, yeah, I remember that guy." Ask a USD fan and you'll get, "Oh, yeah, Matt, he was one of our all time greats." He really stepped up and did have a fantastic tourney, but he wasn't Tech's star last season.

It's always been my understanding that tournament play is usually more physical than regular season.

I realize it's road game so it's never a given, but I just don't see how you don't handle Omaha. You just have a better team and have a great chance to wind up with a top three seed.

...the Yotes are not good at defending the 3, and it allows teams to get in a grove and start shooting ridiculous percentages.... This is something that really perplexes me. When Lee came here, one of the things we thought was that defense would be a focus, especially perimeter defense. After all, he was the Assistant HC, and the primary defensive coach, for a team that had insane 3PT defensive efficiency. At the time I was thinking: "perfect for the Summit". Now I am left wondering if it is more about who you recruit than how you coach? In many ways that is just generally true for MBB, I think. Jimmies and Joes, not Xs and Os. They must have had some outstanding athletic defenders on that GCU team. Chisom might be a "prototype" player for that. Not sure who it was exactly, but I remember some high profile college coach saying something like 80% of coaching is successful recruiting?

The idea that the only games that matter are the 3 in Sioux Falls does not apply to the Yotes WBB. Barring a rash of injuries, the SLT is for seeding, not just to get in. There. I said it. You're spot on that it doesn't apply to women's hoops, but on the men's side the only three that matter are in Sioux Falls come March. I'm not certain that seeding is even that important; just qualifying is what matters. Nothing in conference can be considered a major upset as it seems just about anyone can beat just about anybody. It's going to be a wild men's bracket. Who would anyone rank as the favorite thus far?

It's beginning to become somewhat clear that outside the two South Dakota schools the Summit just isn't very good this season. I don't see another team competing with either. I thought a few of the teams would be better than they've shown...I'm looking at you Denver and ORU. Now as soon as I say that someone will pull an upset.

I don't know if I've ever seen a game where the shooting percentages were as high as they were for both teams. If you'd just been told before the game started that one team would be filling it up like they did, you'd have had to figure that team would be a lock for an easy victory. It didn't seem to me that either team was that lax on defense, players were just making plays. The fact that we didn't have the one big scoring drought was one thing about this game that stood out too. Every time they had a little run, the 'Yotes would answer right back.

Bottom Line: That defensive effort today was just insane. One could say the Jacks shot poorly, but they really had very few shots that weren't hurried or contested. The 'Yotes were incredibly well prepared for everything they did and I would imagine the extra day of prep was nice to have. Jacks do have a good team and it will be interesting to see how they respond in Brookings. They probably won't go quietly.

What’s the weather like now in Vermillion. Quit snowing here but winds still blowing 30+ mph. Gusts to 43 The wind has really calmed down here so travel shouldn't be a problem, but I haven't been out of town. Obviously colder than a (fill in the blank) though. Hate it!

Probably won't know much of anything until the roster for spring football comes out. I'm sure there'll be some players moving on. Happens on every team every season.

We certainly blew an opportunity to pick up a tough road win there. Just a really bad final possession on offense and an indescribably horrible blown defensive assignment at the end. Ward just cut to the hoop when he saw no one was guarding him.
